Well constructed, but has limitations
TG•March 5, 2017
Well constructed. Soldi material. Excellent wiring instructions. The RAB tech support is top notch.
Unfortunately, the large size of the floodlight hood limits your ability to aim the flood where you want. This is especially true when two of these hoods are used, and you want the lights aimed in the same general direction.

Just what I expected. Very good quality and looks great. Have purchased 3 more heads.
Well made good looking fixture.

I put a couple basic light sockets on my patio to light up the back yard. They looked cheap. I found these on Amazon. They are much nicer looking and give the lights a finished look. They were well constructed, not cheap plastic. Very easy to install. Three wires and they screw into standard junction boxes. Do it right the first time and get something like these for your outdoor light fixtures. I used LED flood lights, which are a bit longer than standard incandescent flood lights, so they did stick out a bit further than I would like. The company does make extended bezels that fit on the end of the fixture that would cover the entire light.
Buy these and be a good neighbor

We bought these along with the HV1WH Visors to complete our full cut-off/ fully shielded outdoor lights. We are now the ONLY people in our neighborhood with zero glare bombs as we get ready to take on the entire city and ask for a full, take no prisoners, outdoor light ordinance. That said...
These are great. The luminaire and visor are aluminum with a superior powder coating.
Installation was straight forward. They fit perfectly into our existing cover so less installation work. They are also larger than the photos would lead anyone to believe, thus making them true outdoor floods.
Although initially more expensive than other options for this luminaire, this PAR 38 model gives us all possible options for bulb choice. We installed wet rated LED bulbs. We recommend the long life bulbs because they use less energy and the visor has a glass cover making bulb replacement somewhat of a hassle.
The visor is completely water tight, so installing incandescent bulbs may result in heat build-up and bulb breakage within the luminaire. The glass is thick and will protect the bulbs for many many years.
We retro-fitted our entire outdoor lighting scheme with full cut off lighting for less than $200. In some instances we got creative and bent metal to make a cover for a 'vintage' wall pack. The entire household cheered when that cover went on because it created a huge glare bomb in the driveway.
It is so hard to find full cut-off pillar lights (and shame on the lighting industry for continuing to put out glare bombs), so we lined ours with a $1 sheet of black (the lights are black) fun foam from the hobby store. Voila - full cut off pillar lights without changing its style.
Because our neighbors are total inconsiderate gits, we are now ready to push forward a new city ordinance. Anyone can drive by our house at night to comprehend the difference between the neighbors' glare bombs and outdoor lighting that doesn't trespass. Even though we offered to pay for a neighbor's outdoor light replacements because their floodlights made our backyard unusable, they refused. We got a judgment against them because their lights materially affected our enjoyment of our property. What would have cost them zero cost them thousands and thousands because the judge made them pay for our legal fees (basically for being complete jerks). TFB. Welcome to outdoor lighting that is both functional and considerate.
