I think this rack would be great in the vertical position but I would not recommend ...
Mary FarrellAugust 4, 2017
Overall the rod holder is well built but when using it in the horizontal position the cups for holding the rod butt ends is not deep enough. When I was removing one rod from the rack, the butt end of another rod slipped out.of the holder. Since the tip end of the rack is clamped in tight, the butt end fell to the floor and my $110 graphite rod broke in the middle. I think this rack would be great in the vertical position but I would not recommend it for anyone needing a horizontal holder. Deeper butt cups would solve the problem
Disappointed in Product
WalleyeMuskyGuySeptember 25, 2016
Disappointed in these items. Unless you have no reels on your rods these are useless as they are spaced entirely too close together for even my walleye spinning rods let alone my musky rods. I should of done better homework but I expected better from a product that Rapala puts it's name on. Further more the butt end of the rod holder is in a fixed position so that means you can't even stagger the rods such that the reels don't collide. I am throwing these out and buying something completely different.
Why did Rapala design such a BAD rod rack? 4 rod/reel combo at most fit!
Bill HSeptember 2, 2016
Says for SIX rods. I can fit 4 with reels. VERY UPSET with this design and its from Rapala! Why did they design such a bad wall rod rack? Needs to be about an inch wider between each rod holder. Very BAD design. Not good at all.
Some installation/design issues
GDBohunAugust 3, 2016
This is a decent rack, but I have issues with it. One was ease of installation with hardware provided. This rack comes with hardware--screws and plastic anchors--for drywall installation. If you wish to install it into wooden studs or ceiling joists (what I did) you will need wood screws of approximately the same size, which are not included. You will also need a long screwdriver bit on your drill--the design of these racks makes using a short driver very difficult.
As far as storing rods, the main beef I have with this system is that the butt ends of the rods are only supported by about a quarter inch. Why did they not put holes straight through where the rod butts go? This way there would be more support on the butt end, less chance of the rods falling out, and there would be no problem with the other holder lining up directly over a rod eyelet. One of my rods won't fit in the rack because of this, as I had to space them either 32" or 48" apart to screw into joists spaced 16" apart. If installing into drywall measure your rods carefully to make sure you space the holders properly to fit into the rack without coming down on an eyelet.
Having said all this, these racks work sufficiently and my rods are no longer leaning against the wall. But there is major room for improvement in their design.
Great way to stow rods and reels

5 stars for an efficient, aesthetically apprealing way to organize fishing rods. For years rods and poles were stowed in corner of garage but often required the tedious task of sorting through to find particular set up needed. With this rapala rod rack, all rod/poles are vividly display, omitting need to rummage. One side of rack support pole handles and opposite side has snap whereby pole is pushed thru a spring loaded type of mechanical thum ajd index finger. It is made of durable ABS plastic (similar to bumpers on cars) and expandable. Comes with needed hardware. Rack can be mounted to accommodate vertical or horizontal orientation. We opted to mount poles horizontally to ensure longer flypoles do not bottom out on garage ceiling. The mounts holes do interlock so a contiguous patter can be achieved. Finally, this really has maximized space because unlike floor racks, this does not occupy any floor space. This constitutes another re order and will definitely by more when needed. Highly recommend.
