Maybe I got a defective one, but the rubber that holds the reeds kept popping out of its groove letting the reeds fall.

Reeds have been consistent to an extent (many weather changes where I am). The only downside is the reed holder comes off easily after being dropped (well, duh), but if you want something more durable I'd explore other options.
