I loved it while it worked!
Lady Diane✓ Verified Purchase•May 26, 2013
I loved this, even though the cord was so small, even though it takes batteries instead of USB plug-in. It wasn't super loud but the notebook I have is so quiet, I was happy. I was also happy that it does plug into any standard 3.5mm jack. Unfortunately, I tend to fling things around a bit and kept jolting the speaker. Never dropped anything on it, nor dropped it onto a hard surface; it just hung in the air. But I guess that was enough to break the inner workings because now it's just a loud buzzing noise with the video just barely audible. I threw everything away; plus you really can't return these in original packaging as you have to cut the packaging to death in order to remove the product! I love the size and the price, especially the size, but it's no good to me now. I don't know what to buy. I have limited space and I am disabled so looking for something easy to manage. PS I only had this for a short time.
Good idea, but poor quality

I bought this product to use in my massage studio with my mp3 player. At first, I was pleased with the speakers. The volume wasn't particularly loud, but in a small massage room, it was perfect. It seemed a great deal for only $10. Unfortunately, they lasted me less than 2 months or so. Within no time the cable began malfunctioning and I had to fidget with it to keep the connection or the sound would be lost. After a few more weeks, the sound would skip out even when the speakers were not moved or touched, and it would make a squeeking sound that was aggrevating and unpleasant. From the very start, the volume of these speakers could not handle being maxed out when the bass was louder, or it would sort of rattle.
Overall, I would not recommend this product. Save your money and invest in something more durable and built to last. I just recieved a new set of speakers. Once it finishes charging, I will test it out and update this review to give a comparison.

iLuv iSP100 vs. iLuv iSP110 speaker: A case where the lower number is the superior speaker.

Don't be deceived by the larger size of the iSP110 or the hype about the "unbelievable" audio from either speaker. The iSP110 is considerably larger (with plenty of storage room for player and earphones) and uses 2 AA batteries; the iLuv iSP100 is far more compact, stylish, detailed, using 3 AAA batteries to achieve, if anything, better audio gain and fidelity than the iSP110. But neither speaker produces "powerful" or "deep" or "resonant" bass, as the claims would have you believe. (I can occasionally, and only barely, distinguish the pitches of acoustic bass.) They're both pleasant sounding speakers when used indoors, in quiet quarters, and within inches of the playing source.
Both speakers suffer from an overly short cord extending from the speaker (about 2" in the case of the iSP110; 4" for the iSP100). The user is apt to be tempted to pick up an extension audio cable to permit the player to be held or placed in one pocket with the speaker held or placed in another. In that case, my guess is that the already limited volume of the speaker would suffer or distort, and that the shortness of the cable in both instances is critical to what volume the speaker is capable of projecting.
The iSP100 appears to be more recent, more finished and carefully thought-out technology. It's perhaps the smallest speaker I've seen with this much range and efficiency, its size advantage compromised by a cord that demands the player always be right next to the speaker. Still, for under $20, it's probably a keeper (I returned my iSP110, since it's less powerful, considerably larger and more cumbersome than portable speakers--such as the Saitek A100--that were available several years ago.)

Good sound, but construction quality is awful

I had the same experience as some other reviews I read. I couldn't turn the thing off. The little blue standby light always stays on. There is a supposed on/off switch, but it doesn't do anything. I left the thing the first night and by morning there was a horrible loud buzzing coming out of the speakers -- the death cry of the batteries. Lucky I had rechargeables, but still it was clear this situation is unsustainable.
I received a refund for the product after complaining, so the seller (on Amazon Marketplace) was actually excellent and didn't want the defective product back. It is still usable, but I have to take the batteries out after every use and put them back in to use it, else they go dead again in a few hours.
It's a shame the construction is so poor, because I actually like the sound, which is nice and surprisingly rich for the size. If you are one of the lucky ones to get a non-defective unit, it could be quite pleasant. A shame that judging by the reviews, it seems so many units are crap.

Flawed construction or design

I ordered my first iLuv iSP100BLK Mini Portable Speaker for MP3 Players and iPod and within two days, the device stopped working. It simply wouldn't play. I emailed the company, and the device was immediately replaced. The new device lasted almost two weeks, then stopped working, again. Since there are so many good reviews about the device on this website, the only conclusion I can come to is that a particular batch came from the factory with a flawed design. I am waiting a year, then ordering another one. I really hope the next one works the way it is supposed to, because, when it was working, it produced great sound (not really as loud as I would have liked it to be, but the sound quality was clear), it was extremely portable (just the right size to fit in my purse), and very easy to use. The only other thing that could be improved is the length of the speaker cable. It does not allow for the Ipod to be used very far from the device, which was awkward for a couple of my uses.
