If you take a lot of hits to the face from wood turning then you are likely going to need a replacement shield one day. It does what it is supposed to do which is keep flying debris from cutting my eyes.

I use full face masks religiously when I'm using big power tools (table saw, lathe, etc.) in the shop. My 12 year old grandson recently expressed a strong interest in learning how to use power tools so the first thing I did was buy him his own Uvex full face mask to introduce him immediately to the idea of safe practices in the shop. In the process, I decided to replace the plastic visor on my Uvex. I'm glad I did. It was well worth the cost.
Not worth buying the coated versions

The uncoated visor is much cheaper than the coated version, and they last about as long. I am likely to replace scratched visor more often due to lower cost.
