Loose shielding in the battery compartment

The unit provided erratic readings. I disassembled it and found that the foil shielding was so poorly installed, crooked and loose, that it was shorting out the leads. I reaffixed it and it works perfectly.

Fluke 80TK Thermocouple Module

I purchased this thermocouple module several years ago to be able to take temperature readings with my Fluke 87 DMM. The module came with a 4' long Type-K thermocouple bead probe that is rated for a maximum temp of up to 260°C/500°F, but there are also several other style probes available for it that can extend the temp range up to 1000°C/1832°F. This module plugs directly into the meters test lead jacks and the meter is set to the desired mV range. The meter will then display the temperature reading as mV. The module is powered by a 9V battery and can be field calibrated when needed. It has an easy to access slide switch for on/off and to select between Fahrenheit and Celsius.
