Time-sert is really the best thread repair available. I tried the heli-coil, but the location of the spark plug on the Honda 400EX is difficult to access and I ended up pulling it out. Time-sert is expensive, especially if you may only use it once.

A very clever systems that puts a machinist grade repair in reach of the common man. Self aligning tools make the process simple. The repair leaves you with a stought steel lining of the spark plug hole that was expanded to grip and seal on the base metal. A modest amount of care and the new hole is good for the remaining life of the engine.
