Definitely helps when your back goes out or is sore from working out. Love that there is a heat setting as well. A better and cheaper way to go than spending $$$ at a spa for a deep tissue. Recommend!
Very disappointed in this product

Very disappointed in this product. I have had a Homedics Shiatsu Lumbar massager with heat that I bought 4 years ago. I used it for hours every night, and loved it. Unfortunately, it finally died the other night. So I went to replace it with another, only to fine that I can't fine the same model. I ordered this as it looked to be close to what I had. It isn't! the pillow is hard and stiff( my other one was covered with micro fiber), the massager is weak and doesn't give a deep massage, and the heat is luke warm at best. Sending it back!!

I got this after I exploded two disc in my back, L4-L5, terrible sciatic issues...god that was a bad time in my life.
Once the initial 'HOLEEEKRAP' pain went down, I'd lay on the floor, and let this thing rub my back, and it helped. Still took me 18 months to be 'right' but I think this did help move the 'goo' that used to be in my disc, that was now jamming into my spine (fun..) around and aid the process of healing.
I still use it if my back is tight.
The heat was plenty for me, and the fabric and motors are still like new.

I have a bad back, and after some years tried one of these. I wish I had tried it sooner.
I have tried a few different brands of these, and this is my favorite one so far as far as "bang for the buck."
However, I have literally worn out the fabric on about six of them in three years. I tried repairing one, but once they get a rip it will get worse.
The black meshy part in the center will eventually wear out, but I admit I use this thing pretty much all day when I'm sitting in a chair and I frequently have it positioned to maximize pressure.
It turns off automatically after 15 minutes, which unfortunatley isn't optional -- but that seems to be fairly standard on these.

I don't have any specific back pain, just general soreness from my daily commute and work day. I've had my eye on one of these for the longest time, but only recently pulled the trigger. I can say that this is the best thing I've ever purchased. It does exactly what it says. The rollers are firm enough to give you a deep massage without causing pain. Some people may feel that the rollers are too hard, but shiatsu is a deeper, harder massage so that is to be expected. This little thing gives great results. After a few 15 minute cycles, I feel so refreshed and less stressed. I especially like the lumbar massager because I think it gives you more flexibility than the full back massagers. I can move it up and down my back based on my needs. If I could, I would give this 10 stars!
