Side access wall mounted power tap which screws into a 2 position standard socket.
BrianP✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 8, 2018
APC6 is an affordable wall mounted surge protector and tap, with 6 earthed (grounded) US style 125V outlets. The key feature of theis model is the side access to the sockets, I generally use the ones with sockets on the front but have a couple of locations (such as behind a wardrobe) where side access lets you use the wall socket and have the furniture close up to the wall. There is a screw for solid attachment (replaces that in the usual socket cover plate). I'm gradually installing basic or better surge protection on all my home and cabin outlets. I work in a facility where our switchgear fried on time and wrecked a lot of instrumentation, freezers etc ., and my cabin in the Adirondacks is prone to electrical disruptions. This is a pretty basic surge protector rated at 1080 joules from a company with some higher end product lines. You are hoping that it destroys itself in an "˜event'. It comes with a one year limited warranty and separate electrical equipment coverage. I find the surge protection registration and coverage stuff to be annoying (which is why I gave the review 4 stars not 5) - they give you a form to mail, but the small print doc refers only to coverage after online registration; which product line to pick in the registration site is indeterminate. I toss the registration and order receipt in a filing cabinet but still doubt that I'd ever be able to comply with the detail in making a coverage claim.
Nice device, but poor design

Pros:
Port spacing is good.
Nice to have the USB port. (Notice I only say 1 port -- see Cons)

CONS:
USB Ports are inadequately powered. You can use at most one USB port for charging when using the other for charging your cell phone. If you plug anything into the second USB port then you lose charge to the cell phone. Nice device, but poor design APC! Also, occasionally the device will slip out slightly from the wall. so be sure to check the power light before charging and push it back in if it is loose. Unfortunately I own this and the 4 port version. I'm guessing they did this for UL certification but then they might as well have just provided a single USB port.
1.2 AMP USB Charging Ports, ..Not 2.4amp!!
No Imitations✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 10, 2017
Just purchased 2 of these APC-6 Outlet Surge Arrester with (2), 2.4amp usb chargers. When I plugged in my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with fast charging technology, to my Surprise neither of my phones would fast charge. The phone's Fast Charging option shuts off when I plug it into the "Supposedly" 2.4amp usb charge port. My phones came with a Adaptive fast charger (2.0amp) and when I used this on 1 of my Note 4 phones and used the APC usb port on my 2 Note 4 phone,....The results were shocking. The APC 2.4amp usb port charged at a Much Slower Speed than using my Adaptive Fast Charger. This caused me to be very concerned. I contacted APC (Schneider Electric) and gave them the model #. The technician informed me that the 2 ports are ACTUALLY 2.4amp "COMBINED". I informed her that the website Claims the opposite of what she is telling me. She said that if I read the Information sheet that comes inside the box, it will state that the Usb ports are 2.4amp combined. I called Amazon and have informed them of the situation. Amazon acted quickly to pull their "Ships and Sold by Amazon" from this particular Model. False Advertising by the Manufacturer again. 3 times I read on this model that it has (2) 2.4amp usb ports. Unfortunately it is actually (2) 1.2 amp usb charging ports. APC is a Good brand, but I am very disappointed to learn they also falsely advertise like So Many other companies. If you don't mind Slow Charging your Smart phones or Laptops, Well this will be a good Surge Arrester and product for you. But I Specifically was wanting a True Fast Charging duel Usb ports for my phones and laptop.
Lights flicker even if device/program is set to OFF.

When plugging lights into this device, the lights constantly flicker like a strobe light.

Both the initial order and replacement order exhibited the same problem. There are other 1-star reviews that also reflect this fault. Do not buy if you are using lights/lamps.

Also note that this device will block BOTH outlets and require you to remove the screw from the faceplate in order to install.
Excellent design! Great for those bulky AC adapters.

So glad I found this. I needed more outlets behind my wine fridge and kegerator and also was tight on space between them and the wall. This does the job perfectly since the outlets are spaced far apart and two of the plugs I have are AC adapters. I also like the fact that I didn't have to install screws into the drywall to mount it (like most surge protectors). Simply remove the existing wall plate and screw this one right in. Lastly, the price is very reasonable and as an IT professional, I've been using APC products at home and at work since the early 90's.
