I like using this for my art - it is outdoor proof - you can dip fabric in it and it will be hard and waterproof. It's much more concentrated than "Stiffy" and works very well. I wish it cost less.
Dries completely clear

I used this for the first time on a mixed media project. I loved how easy it was to use and that it dried clear so that all of the beautiful fabrics kept their vibrant colors.

Powertex transparent fabric stiffener is by far the best I have found. It is water soluble (easy clean up), non-toxic, biodegradable and when thoroughly mixed/stirred according to directions, it goes on smoothly. It looks milky when wet, but dries crystal clear. Once dry, every thread and fabric detail is visible in the finished piece, and my textile vessels remain stiff and strong. The final finish can feel slightly rough/gritty to the touch, but a light sanding (200 grit) takes care of that without changing the look of the finished piece. Just vaccum, or wipe off sanding residue with a damp cloth. Unfortunately, it IS expensive, but goes a long way and I'm okay with paying a little more for a reliably great product.
Good product, but alters the medium applied to.....

I've been looking for something to reinforce my felt work, especially when the base is too fine to stand up by itself. This stuff does the trick. However, be aware of a couple of things: 1) it is white, and it doesn't dry clear, so you will have to apply it on a surface that doesn't show. 2) it's pretty viscous, but I discovered that you can successfully thin it with water (instructions don't cover that) so that it soaks in and doesn't sit on the surface. As long as you don't apply too much, it won't permeate to the other side, and it still dries hard. I applied it with a 1/2" paintbrush.
I would give it 5 stars for my application if it was clear and didn't affect the finish of my work.
