Excellent Light for Dark Stairs
RickFebruary 12, 2015
The light worked extremely well. I had a dimly lit stairwell and I did not want to install a light fixture. I thought a battery powered motion light would solve the problem and it did. It made the stairs safer for my family and was exceptionally easy to set up.

The installation was easy. I ended up not using the anchors and just used the screws. It still worked fine and continues to be completely stable. Changing the batteries was easy. It is definitely surprising only three batteries fit in the light. The light itself is not too large with the three batteries taking up most of the room within the light fixture. The motion sensor range was perfect and illuminated the stairs well before anyone could lay a foot on the first step. It even triggered when my dog came near the stairs. Relying on the sensor worked well. It was especially helpful when my hands were full and I did not have to deal with a light switch. The sensor was also great for triggering when children were sneaking out of bed and trying to get downstairs to play.

I would also recommend using rechargeable batteries, especially if you install it in a high foot traffic area. While the non-rechargeable batteries will result in a brighter light and do not need to be switched out as frequently, the rechargeable batteries work adequately in confined areas. The cost savings associated with rechargeable batteries easily outweigh the trade off of a slightly dimmer light and the need to switch out batteries more frequently.
Bright, but cheaply made from our friends in CHINA!
LukeSeptember 18, 2014
I bought three of these at first to help illuminate a few dark spots on a ranch we have, and these lights work so well (wow they are bright) that I bought 3 more. They almost look like security cameras having either wifi or cellular connection capability and I installed three near our gate on the highway to illuminate and possible deter scoundrels from coming onto our property.

One word of caution though, like a lot of stuff being made in China, these lights are cheaply made. Very thin plastic inside the housing serves to hold the batteries (it takes three D cells) and I broke one of the tiny tabs that help clip and hold the lid onto the battery compartment and which serve as a way for all the batteries to connect to provide the 4.5 volts that power the light. There is no way to repair this cheap plastic when broken (and trust me, they are easy to break) and probably if the batteries need replacing in the dead of winter, the plastic when cold will probably break even easier, so be gentle as possible when changing the batteries. Other than being made in China and very cheaply at that, I like these lights a lot.
All of them went bezerk

Received early January 8, 2013, thought it would be a good idea getting up in the night.

Worked for about a month then this light started going on and off constantly. Replaced batteries, still the same. Put up the second light, about a month later it did exactly the same. Put up the third one and here it is four months later, three bad lights as it is doing the same thing, just constantly goes on, off, on, off. What gives?

Wasted my money, even though when working they were great, bright and cycled off, now they are just junk on the work bench and I'm stuck with something I cannot return.

This is why I wait to review items, and in this case working for a month or so then going bad, really disappointed in this item.
Great light, better than Mr Beam version
bizplJuly 5, 2012
I tried to figure out what the difference was between this Dorcy light and the Mr Beams Mr Beams MB360 Wireless LED Spotlight with Motion Sensor and Photocell - Weatherproof - Battery Operated - 140 Lumens version of the light from the descriptions, but there is nothing that indicates if there are differences, so I bought both. They are identical in every way EXCEPT the Dorcy has two little switches inside the unit to adjust the time the light stays on (30 sec vs 2 min), and a switch for low or high beam light intensity. The Mr Beams version does NOT have the switches and only has a 30 sec timer and one light intensity. The difference between the two light intensity settings on the Dorcy is not much, but it's an option that might help with saving a little bit of battery life. Both lights are similar in intensity and color. If having the ability to keep the light on longer when it senses motion is worth something to you, get this Dorcy light. That's worth the roughly $1 more for the Dorcy light than the Mr Beams to me.

I bought this light to use as a indoor hallway basement light so I wouldn't have to turn on all the lights to get to a room at the far end of the basement (being the frugal person that I am). I haven't used it outside so I can't comment on how waterproof it is. I've had it for a year and it's worked great. The motion sensor works at least 30 feet away and lights up the room enough to walk around without bumping into anything. The light is brighter than some of the other LED lights, but don't expect to use it as a replacement for a regular lamp. In the last power outtage that lasted three days, it came in very handy as an emergency light. The batteries have lasted over a year of usage, but that's based on a few 'uses' each day.
Dorcy and Mr Beams units are identical. Both good.

I ordered one each of the Dorcy and Mr Beams LED security lights - wondering what the difference was. Conclusion: They are identical except for packaging.
-------------------------------------------------

Dorcy 41-1071 LED Wireless Motion Sensor Flood Lite came in a pretty colorful box. $21.76 plus tax.

Mr Beams MB360 Wireless LED Spotlight with Motion Sensor and Photocell - Weatherproof - Battery Operated - 140 Lumens came in a plain box. $22.37 plus tax.

I like them both. To quote other reviewers:

" This little light was easy to install and so far has worked very well. " - BERNARD IASIELLO
" The light isn't super bright but it is bright enough to light up a large area. " - A. Edmonds
" It is bright, it works well, and the battery life is long. " - King
-----------------------------------------------------

I would add: The units both detect motion as much as 30-40ft away. They are slightly less bright than my 100 watt motion sensor porch light (110volt). They are quite a bit less bright compared to my double flood lights on 110volt (which cost me a fortune to have wired). As stated in instructions: "... only goes on in complete darkness!" Therefore, unit may function poorly near street lights, other brighter security lights, and near windows with interior house lights on.
