A sturdy rack which is easy to install
Lewis Rosenthal•July 17, 2017
Well made, clear directions, and great fit.
This season, I got my daughter a Trek Verve 1. This rack seemed a good choice to mount Ibera Bicycle Bag PakRak Clip-On Quick-Release All Weather Bike Panniers (Pair), Includes Rain Cover, and I have been impressed with what I've seen of Ibera's PakRak system.
In addition to the clear instructions, Ibera includes washers and mounting screws, each with a dab of loctite already on them, which is a nice touch (I guess not every dad has loctite in the garage, and even so, this saved me the extra steps).
The Verve 1 has threaded mounting holes on the seat stays, and the rack attached easily. Getting it to the right height and fairly level was also easy. It helps to have decent tools, of course. Two different metric Allen keys are required, but that's about it. The Verve 1 is well painted, and of course, this means that new threads have a coat of paint on them, making it a little stiff to get bolts into the mounting holes the first time, but this is nothing unusual or difficult.
The rack seems to be made well, and is quite solid. I like the rear panel which may be used for a light or reflector (the reflector on the seat tube is now somewhat obscured). This is a nice finishing touch.
Overall, I think this rack was a good value, considering its ease of installation and good quality.

Rack mounting was very simple and had good adjustment options for different axle types and wheel sizes
DEREK K MC ROBERTS•July 11, 2017
Rack mounting was very simple and had good adjustment options for different axle types and wheel sizes. Fit with no problems over my generic fenders. I bought this as a pair with the Ibera PakRak Commuter Trunk Bag so I'll include my review of that because I haven't used it with other forms of cargo yet.
"My wife has a side mount bag an I've seen how it throws her balance off sometimes, it's also only held on by its own weight and she just lost ithe other day going over some railroad tracks with a light bag of just some swimwear and a beach towel. When I started biking to work I saw Ibera had a nice rear-mount bag/cargo rack system and it was perfect for what I needed. Bike in to work with a nice change of cloths and a lunch, bike out at night with whatever is left. The bag attaches very securely to the PakRak mount and because the weight is sitting right where you are I never felt a difference in my ride."

Verified usable on bikes without seat stay mounts!

This rack is awesome! I couldn't believe how light it was. Plenty of adjustment points for your particular situation. I'm excited to get PakRak bags as soon as I can afford them! If you're like me and have a bike that doesn't have seat stay mounting holes, you can still use this product. It will however require an additional purchase or the drilling and tapping of holes if you prefer and your seat stay diameter is sufficient. I opted for P clamps which are less than $2 in the US for a package of 2 clamps at home improvement or hardware stores. I found mine in the Lowes fastener section in the hard to find drawers. They are simple rubber lined clamps that wrap snug around your seat stay. Each end has a hole to run a standard M5-.80 bolt through. I picked up a small pack of M5-.80 X 16 machine bolts and M5-.80 nylon insert lock nuts to make it super easy and secure. (Toss the extras in a zip lock in your bag just in case you find some crazy way to lose one.) Measure the diameter of your seat stay tubing before you go so you purchase the correct size P clamp. If you can't find them in the store and nobody knows what you're asking for, whip out your phone and google P clamp so you both know exactly what you're looking for. This super cheap add on makes the install super secure! If you ignored the weight rating, I feel confident saying that the rack tubing itself would fail before mounting points. I hope this review helps someone to enjoy this light and attractive mount as much as I am. Happy biking! Pack an extra water bottle for me
Good rack, mounting not so good.

Mounting the item wasn't terribly difficult and the rack itself seems to be of gItod quality. I would say the item is of excellent quality. The rating is marked down because of mounting issues. It fit the bike just fine. As relates to the instructions - larger pictures of mounting with better detail would be very helpful. One small piece on each side I still don't really know which end is up. I figure it is a proprietary design which would explain itself if Ibera paks are used. The additional screws provided were fine to assemble the frame. They were useless in mounting it to the bike. I don't know if this is because its not a high end bike without pre-installed mounting anchors such as for water bottle holders or if it is specific to a particular bike. Bottom line, the additional screws were of no value to me. I solved the problem with a trip to Lowes for some larger metric screws for the fender mounting locations near the rear axle and some self tapping screws to secure it to the frame under the seat. In my first attempt, I anchored it to the seat mounting tube of the frame. This anchored the seat where it couldn't be adjusted vertically. So I anchored it to the frame tubing coming off the seat/upright tube. I suppose this could have all been resolved by adding some additional, larger screws and some type of mounting collar for the upright tube or a flat, two piece clamp running across the two tubes which run from the upright to the axle. Given the variety of bikes and frames, that might not help in wide use..
Solid Rack, Solid Price

I've been using this rack for 3 years now on a hardtail mountain bike I've converted into a touring/trail bike. It's built damn tough and hasn't had an issue yet. It was very adjustable to fit my older bike (Mongoose Hilltopper) although I did have to reconfigure the seat stay mounting rod brackets under the rack to adjust them and get them to align with the frameline. And I did cut down the rods to within the bracket for a 'cleaner' look.
It took my Axiom panniers but not without mods to my bags. But there is a weak point with this design. If you plan to pack larger panniers they tend to bend inward towards the wheel at the back of the bike. Maybe it's just my bags, yours might work. I've done one tour with this and didn't have any issues with bolts or screws breaking. There's a plate to mount a light, it looks super pro when you do this. The three height positions allow me to set the rack low - I got it slammed down just above the fender. Low center weight, better ride. All the hardware is good, although I did upgrade some to stainless.
For $30 it's a good, rugged, quality, customizable rack, compare this to the $$ of the top brands racks -- you could buy 5 of these for one of "their" racks,
