I've had it for a week. It hasn't broken but I will say the brakes aren't super great so if your loved one gets him or herself up and isn't that strong, be sure you're nearby to keep an eye on them. My dad is a dementia patient and he can walk so he will tend to try to get up and down on his own and it isn't that sturdy to support him so stay close and use it just for transport or sitting at a table. Also, the wheels are only really good for navigating on hard, smooth surfaces. Don't expect to be able to take this on grass. Other than that I am so far happy and as a lightweight transport on hard surfaces it's nice.
5-star chair, 5-star customer service!

Wonderful product and wonderful customer support! This chair is for my mother, but I didn't want it shipped to her place in case she couldn't get it into the house. I didn't know it would require a signature, and I had a hard time being home to receive it, and I couldn't get it shipped to a different address so it was sent back to the seller. I contacted the seller and explained the situation. I asked how much it would cost to ship a new one. They responded to my inquiry immediately and sent a new one out right away, without any cost to me, and no cost to restock the chair. They asked me where they should ship it, so I had it sent to my workplace.
I received the new chair within just a few days, and it is wonderful! It is incredibly light. I'm barely 5' and I can lift it with one arm. The chair needed almost zero assembly. The chair was all assembled, except for the foot rests, and those are removable on purpose. They can be placed on the chair just by sliding them onto pegs, and then they lock securely in place. The chair easily folds up and is easy to lift and place inside a trunk. The blue plaid is very pretty... it doesn't look like the standard chair you see in hospitals, which is a nice touch. The chair itself is sturdy, and seems well put-together. It's a lightweight chair, and I can't speak for how well it would carry a very heavy person. My mother only weighs about 120lbs. My co-workers (when I unpacked it at work) remarked that the chair seemed short, but my mother thought it was fine. She found it easy to sit on it and to get up, and I found it easy to push her around. Thank you, Drive Medical and Phillips Health Care (I think Drive Medical manufactured the chair and Phillips Health Care sells it?) for such a great chair and for superb customer service!!

Nice lightweight design

I purchased this for my mom in 2014 (3 years ago). Someone just asked me about it, so I thought I'd write a review. It's held up very nicely, and I like the light weight, collapsable design. Mom likes the color, it's different and she likes that. My one complaint is the foot holders. They aren't easy enough to put on & take off, and they also leave a gap, so sometimes my mom's feet wander into the gap and onto the ground. That's a bit dangerous I think, but she hasn't fallen out of it yet, so maybe it's not so bad.
Excellent transport chair!

I initially wanted this transport chair for myself to use on vacation. After a spinal fusion, and now additional issues with my back, the time I can stand or walk around is very limited. I will admit, I was hesitant to purchase this one because of some of the less than stellar reviews. As it turns out, I ended up using this for my 81 year old dad, who is experiencing a lot of pain walking due to a vascular issue. It was becoming near to impossible to get him from the front porch to the car, not to mention in and out of doctors offices for his many appointments. Now my dad is very stubborn and scoffed at the mention of a wheelchair...well I told him this was mine, but he's welcome to borrow it. Both he and my mom thought this chair was just the neatest thing on earth! Now some details about the actual chair...the leg pieces are extremely easy to get off and on, the foot rests are just plastic -- but they do their job and actually stay up when you flip them up. The leg pieces swing away easily so you can move the person out of the chair without them restricting movement (they are also adjustable for leg length). The rest of the chair is in one piece...kind of like the bag chair of transport chairs! When it's open and you want it closed, fold the back rest down then simply grasp the 2 handles on the seat and pull upwards...voila!...it's closed. I was able to just hold the handles and roll it along next to me like a piece of rolling luggage. It is lightweight, at least easy enough for me to handle, and fits behind the drivers seat of my VW Jetta. I will repeat...easy in...easy out! You do need to stand behind the chair just to steady it and add support for the person as they sit in it -- if you do this simple step, there is no tipping backwards. I'm not very strong and all I had to do was stand behind it and steady it (Dad is 5'9, 160lbs). My dad said it was a smooth ride and I had no trouble pushing the chair over various bumps/cracks in pavement or those metal floor pieces in doorways. Maneuvering around tight office spaces was easy and smooth too. For those who complained about the brakes...I think you're doing it wrong -- I only flipped them into place, but one of the nurses at a dr we visited did an extra push and that fully engaged the brakes in place. So, you actually must apply a little extra pressure to the lever and that does the trick. Aesthetically, this is an attractive chair...very nice shade of cobalt blue plaid with a dark pink/purple running through...frame is a dark blue. There is a cell phone pocket on the back as well as a velcro pouch (I put the tool packet in there). So in conclusion, I highly recommend this chair if you're looking for a lightweight, easy to handle transport chair that can fit in the back seat of your car! It doesn't get easier than this.

got this for dad to use after his hip replacement and - well it beats carrying him - nah - I wasn't doing that but it did make it easier to do all the follow up stuff because this folds up nice - does not weigh a lot - and we could get in and out of doctors offices faster without having to wait for a wheelchair etc... just unfold it - hop in and we're off to the races.
