Can be modified over drywall

For those wondering if this can be installed over existing drywall, indeed it can. I was able to trim down the plastic and fit it to the slope of my ceiling with a short 2x1 anchoring the box to the ceiling. I wouldn't recommend using it this way for a fan unless installed per the instructions with a 2x4 brace between joists. However, for a flush mount or pendant style light that is only moderately heavy, installing this way will do the job and leave a clean look once you caulk the joins at the ceiling. Well worth not having to build a box from scratch.
