Strong, Tall, and Easy to Handle

OK. I'm thoroughly impressed.

IMPORTANT: The Chinese knock-offs are not nearly as well made. This ladder is ANSI rated, while the others cite that they are EN131 (European Union) rated. The important point here is that a ladder that is EN131 rated is tested at exactly the rated weight, while a ladder that is ANSI rated must be tested at 4-times its rated weight. In other words, a ladder that is EN131 rated for 250 pounds was tested at no more than that weight. An ANSI rated ladder, like this one, that is rated at 250 pounds, was tested at 1,000 pounds. BIG Difference. Also, do not be fooled by claims that a ladder is both ANSI and EN131 rated. That is NOT POSSIBLE. They are mutually exclusive rating systems.

Now, to get on with my review.

I inspect motorhomes and RVs and have to climb on top of some very tall coaches. Even if the coach has a ladder, I use my own ladder, because some of those attached ladders can be of marginal reliability. I used to use a folding extendable Werner ladder Werner MT-26 300-Pound Duty Rating Telescoping Multi-Ladder, 26-Foot that would reach 13 feet, in its folded configuration. But it was ungainly to handle, took up a lot of space in my truck, and took a lot of time and trouble to put up and take down. Don't get me wrong. That Werner ladder a great ladder. But it's just not meant for being mobile.

Enter the Xtend & Climb 785P. This thing is 15.5 feet in length, fully extended. That's a lot different that 15.5 feet in "reach". Many ladder manufacturers try to make their ladders seem taller than they actually are. When most manufacturers say that their ladder is 15.5 feet, you will notice the word "reach" included in the statement. So what that really means is that the ladder is 12.5 feet in length and that an average size person could "reach" 15.5 feet. That is not the case with the Xtend & Climb. 15.5 feet means actual length, so your reach should be about 18.5 feet. In short, this ladder is the longest ladder of its type.

It's almost as heavy as my other ladder. But it's in a much smaller and more manageable size. That means that I can more easily lift it into the back of my truck and it takes up far less space.

I weigh close to 200 pounds. But when this ladder is extended to its full length, I feel perfectly safe, even at a significant incline. There is no bounce or bend to it, as you reach the middle of your climb, as happens with lesser ladders. It's as solid as any ladder you could ask for. You can feel the difference between ladders that have been tested at 250 pounds and this one, that has been tested to 1,000 pounds. It's all the difference in the world.

But the best part is how easy it is to put up and take down. If I didn't have to stop and attach some sliced pool noodles to the ladder, to protect the paint job on the coach, It would take less than 20 seconds. In fact, it takes longer to press the pool noodles into place than it takes to raise the ladder.

Conclusion: Don't go the cheap route. This Xtend & Climb ladder is only a little more expensive than the knock-offs, but well worth the difference in price.
I love this Ladder and it works very well for me

I have been using this ladder for over 6 years now doing Home Inspections. I love this Ladder and it works very well for me. I use it to climb unto roofs and specifically attics inside the residence.
If your not careful you can get pinched by the locking design when the ladder is moving downwards, just have to get your fingers out of the way.
You have to keep it clean and lubricated with a silicon spray. Don't get it wet if it rains, try to keep it out of the rain.
If it does get wet, dry the sliders off and lubricate each vertical and locks. Otherwise, the locks on each side of the rungs will be difficult to engage and will keep the ladder from moving downward. You will have to extend and lower the ladder several times in order to engage the locks to close.
Don't buy or you will get injured

Great, sturdy ladder

We have a 12 1/2 foot high 5th wheel toy hauler travel trailer that doesn't have an attached ladder (because the back door has to fold down). This ladder is easy to use and is compact to carry in the trailer. It is a little heavier that I though it would be. If I had to buy another, I would probably buy the 12 foot version which would be lighter. I never need to fully extend the ladder to get on the roof or work on the side of the trailer. It is extremely sturdy. I haven't had any of the problems others have had with getting the latches to release and let each rung slide down. So long as you keep it level and stand it up straight, push both buttons at the same time, each section drops easily. You do have to be careful with the placement of your hands so you don't get pinched. But that is a user error not a problem with the ladder.
Very pleasantly surprised!

Very pleasantly surprised! I was very concerned that this would not be good for me. I weigh just under 210 and am 6'2". Some of the reviews made me wonder if this would weave and wobble. Some even implied that it would collapse while you stand on it. It was the right height for my motorhome, but the price was lower than others with poor reviews. This was the correct height, and I could not find that height with the others. The super strong ones cost twice as much or more, so I was not ready to spend that much. Needless to say, as I carefully opened it, and found it to slide open effortlessly and safely, I started to feel better about it. Then as I climbed to the top a few times, I was amazed as how surprisingly solid it felt. Place the bottom about 3 feet out from the wall, and it is steady as you climb. You do need to be careful when collapsing it to put it away. I tells you to keep your fingers below the rung that you are collapsing, but it is easy to lose your focus. If you do, the ladder will come down on whatever is in the path of that rung. It is not that hard if you do it slowly, so slow down. If you do it right, it is a joy to use. Very easy and safe. And it fits between two large containers below the motorhome. Easy to access and return as needed.
