I bought the merlin kit for a very specific project. It does what I bought it for remarkably well. I soon learned that it has many more uses. I find that I go to it to solve difficult shaping and sanding problems for turned bowls and wooden art figures. It is easy to controlled and saves a great deal of time in the sanding process.

This tool seems to be well made, feels sturdy in the hand. Cutting action is controllable and predictable. It doesn't grab and make unexpected cuts like it's big brother. I haven't used all the items in the kit but they appear to be well made and I am sure will work well. The only negative comment is the plastic case, the hinges are of the 'bend it until it breaks' variety, not true hinges. Raise the price a buck or two and make a better case, please.

Great tool, every wood carver should have. Removes a lot of material fast, but you can make small cuts just as easy. Very controlable and with the other cutter options
