Awesome, Perfect Fit, Strong

These pins fit perfectly into 1/4" holes and support an amazing amount of weight. I've used them in kitchen cabinetry, shelves for books, and a shelf in my lab for heavy machines. I have not had any problems with the pins ripping through the hole or wobbling in the holes.

One thing that really helped was setting up a jig to make sure the holes are perfectly aligned: just take a 1x2 or some other piece of scrap wood, put a row of guide holes on it, and use it for rows of holes that need to be properly lined up.
Acceptable replacement for round pins

We have some shelving we have had for a number of years that used solid round pins about the length of these, we moved, and lost a good number of the pins. No one but no one carries the round pins. Nobody. The OEM for our bookcase (from IKEA, can I say that???) did not have the pins on their web site, and these were all we could find. Fortunately, they work if you turn them so that the flat side is vertical. At least now you have an option.
Worked great in cabinets with 1/4" holes, used 2 bags of them

These fit great in 1/4" drilled holes in good plywood, drilled with a sharp brad-point bit. They might not work as well in lower quality 3-ply wood or plywood with lots of voids; they may also not work as well if not drilled straight into wood or with a dull bit.

The flat section holds the shelves nicely, and the step from flat to round prevents the pins from coming out when the shelf is in place
Larger 1/4" diameter spoon-style shelf pin is easier to grab and insert

These shelf pins fit 1/4" diameter holes, not the more common 3/16" diameter size frequently used in manufactured kitchen cabinets, etc. Be sure to check the diameter before you order.

I built a set of shelves and tried some "L" shape holders, but found that I would have to cut some additional clearance on the ends of shelf board to accommodate the thickness of the L bracket, which I felt was unacceptable. These pins allow you to keep a tight tolerance between the shelf boards and the sides of the cabinet. If you are building shelves, be sure to drill the 1/4" holes a full 3/8" deep or the pin will not push in all of the way and the shelf board will sit up on the round portion possibly causing some wobble / tipping. The flat blade is 1/2" long and 3/8" wide which make them easier to grab and insert than its smaller 3/16" diameter cousins. From a cosmetic point of view, the larger 1/4" holes drilled into the cabinet sides are slightly more noticeable than the smaller 3/16" style; this is the only reason for the 4 stars, otherwise these pins are very high quality.

In summary, I highly recommend this spoon style of shelf pin. The size (diameter) that you use is a personal preference depending on if you want a pin that is easier to insert or one that accommodates smaller and less noticeable holes.
Excellent product - exactly as advertised.

Before I purchased this shelf hardware I looked at several reviews. Some of the reviews warned that the pins were loose in the holes, but I notice that in all of the reviews I saw where the Kreg shelf pin jig was used, the hardware was given 5 stars. I hapened to have used the Kreg shelf pin jig for drilling all of my shelving holes, so I felt comfortable purchasing these pins. When the pins arrived I tested them, and without fail each one fit as expected - a very snug fit. In fact, I have even used these pins in some existing shelving where the shelf rocked a little bit - I just turned the pin upside down so the shelf was resting on the bottom side of the pin rather than the usual, intended surface. The result - no more shelf rocking.

This product met the specs and delivered as expected. If you use the Kreg shelf pin jig or if you use a drill press to drill the holes, rather than drilling the holes by hand, then this is the shelf pin for you. I suspect that the negative reviews for the loose shelf pins were the result of not using proper tools to ensure a clean, accurate hole was drilled.
