Paint issues

I bought this to use as the side smoker option.
Setup:
Setup was really easy and straight forward, nothing really to report here. The only tip I would say is make sure you have someone to hold it as you put it on your grill, I did it by myself and it was a bit of a challenge.
First use:
Upon using it the first time it word great, I had coals going and would through some wood chunks on from time to time. But towards the end I started to smell paint burning and started to see the paint bubbling at the every top. A day after I used it I came out to find a lot of the paint was off the top and some rust started to form.
Second use:
The second use went the same as the first only this time I watched my fire closer and it just got worst.
Contacting Char-Griller Customer Service:
Thought all was going good, they said sorry to hear about it and then wanted pictures of the damage and receipt. Then they came back and said the paint on it is only rated for short term of 400 deg F... I thought to myself that if this can also be used as a small grill, I grill about that temp on my normal grill so this paint would not hold up as a grill. Then they began to tell me to just sand it of and buy some grill paint that is rated for 1200 deg F. Why don't they just use that paint to start out with and I would have never had the problem! Needless to say they won't do anything.
Conclusion:
The regular charcoal grill that this attaches to works really well, but if you are looking to grill at normal temps or smoke for a long time then I would look at some other options.

This grill works great. Room for direct and indirect cooking

This grill works great. Room for direct and indirect cooking. Great for camping, charcoal is contained which is important when camping in dry areas. Line bottom of charcoal tray with foil and makes clean up very easy. Slightly heavier than most small grills, attribute this to quality materials, well worth the few extra pounds.

We tried it out for the first time last weekend - finally getting time to go and BBQ (my favorite thing to do.) Loved the BBQ and had some interest from people who saw it and asked where we bought it. We live in an apartment so we BBQ at a local picnic spot. It is on the heavy side using as a portable BBQ but it is worth it as it cooks well and looks great!

Very heavy duty, easy to put together works great. If you are going to use this as a stand-alone portable grill be advised that the grates are very close to the coals. So you don't need much charcoal at all to cook 8 chicken thighs or a couple of rib eyes. Have used it several times and have had no issues with paint peeling. But that is not an issue, this is an outdoor, rugged long lasting grill, not a piece of art work.
Great sidebox addition

Great bang for the buck. Product arrived as viewed in the images. It made a great addition to my Char-griller. I did find it difficult to take the side plate off my Char-griller after years of heat build up welding the screw holes almost shut. This has NOTHING to do with the functionality of this product. It's smokes extremely well and I recommend to anyone looking to smoke premium meats for the fraction of the cost of an egg.
