East and effective way to ice your aching feet.

These are a little large for my women's size 8.5 narrow feet, but it is easier to get into them and take them off than the medium size which I also ordered. The cooling lasts about 20 minutes which what is recommended and freeze back pretty quickly. I like the pocket that slips down around the back of the heel area. They're soft. Not sure how much the strap actually holds them in place. It is not removable in case you were wondering.
I've tried other ways of icing my feet and these gel units and socks are the most convenient and keep them in place. I mentioned the size medium was much tighter. I found I could slip a foot sock on, then the icepacks and then another cotton foot sock over it and keep them in place easier than trying to slip down into the sock.

Chemotherapy neuropathy avoidance

I use these for chemotherapy (Taxol) in hopes of avoiding the frequent side effect of neuropathy. The "socks" stay cold for 40 min ok - especially if I stick each foot in its gel sock in a large wool sock. After 40 minutes, my husband helps me change to a fresh set of socks for the next 40 minutes of infusion. The infusion lasts 1 hour, and we try to start at least 5 min. ahead and leave for at least 5 min after. My toes hurt from the cold, but they have not developed any frostbite. I wear white cotton socks on my feet under the gel socks to protect them. I have used these for 4 treatments (out of 12) so far without developing neuropathy. (I also exercise, which research says helps against neuropathy.) The best of good wishes to any other cancer patient who has to use this during treatment!
Bought for chemo - trying to avoid neuropathy

I bought these for the particular chemotherapy I'm on - there's a risk of neuropathy that I hope to avoid by icing using these socks. My USA size 11 women's feet required the larger black socks, but they fit perfectly. I need the ice pads on my toes especially, and I have found it necessary to add tissues above the gel packs to keep the pressure where it needs to be. Hence my 4 star rating - the area here is too large, at least if you really want to keep your toes cold. I bought the replacement gel packs [ASIN:B01K2G6SAC NatraCure Replacement Gel Packs) as these only last about 40 minutes, and my chemo is often twice that. However, I really think they're the best on the market for what I'm trying to do. I found recommendations for this particular brand on lots of cancer boards online . They, together with a replacement pack, are worth the purchase.
WORKS GREAT FOR ICING DURING TAXOL CHEMO!!!
Mommie of two✓ Verified Purchase•December 3, 2017
Highly recommend especially for Breast cancer chemo patients using Taxol that can destroy the nerves in feet and toes, I used these and bought extra frozen ice packs To keep my bottom of my feet and toes numb during my one and a half hours of Taxol chemo, and I do not have any neuropathy, I did have some numbing but very mild and he has gone away after a month of being off chemo. I say anything is worth a try please ice your hands and feet during Taxol it's worth trying! I loved this product!!
Ok, but you may want to size up if you are on the edge of the sizing chart

My biggest problem with these--they are too tight/small to begin with. Then, when you try to shove in the gel packs, it just makes things worse. I wear a size 10 in women's shoes. It said the medium should fit. It does NOT fit! A tad too short, then the snugness issue with the gel packs. I know you don't want them sloppy loose, but a bit more would be nice. I suspect, despite the size chart, I should have gotten the large size. However, I have decided to give these to my mom rather than return them. She has smaller feet. She also could use the unique feature of being able to ice the top of her feet which these provide. Her pain is all on the top, not the bottom. So these should be great for her. As for me, I ordered the Icy Feet too and those turned out to be better for me. They will get to the back of the heel better than these will. I will miss the socks, which were made from a comfy material that insulated against the cold just the right amount, but my mom will get more use out of them. In the future, I would consider buying the next size up for myself. However, I am upset that I followed the advice of the company that made the product and it turned out to be wrong!
