can't for the life of me figure out why it ...

can't for the life of me figure out why it won't sinc up with my Canon camera. This is exactly what I have been using for years.
Reliable performance in a professional card.

For about 6 years I have used a Lexar 8GB 133x (? I think?) card in my Nikon D-300 camera. And for years, these cards have remained at a relatively expensive price-point.
Finally they lowered to a comfortable level and si this one was added to the camera kit.
After several months of trouble-free shooting it is with relief I can advise you that this one performs even better than it's older sibling with nary a problem.
If reliability is your 1st priority, I think you'll find the Lexar 22x Platinum II will be just the thing.

Beware of your device limitations

I bought two of these cards to use in digital audio recorders, thinking the large capacity would allow me to record longer, uncompressed wav files. The problem is the recorders were manufactured before the Compact Flash format had this high of a capacity, and I discovered that any card with over 2 gig capacity becomes unstable in the recorders. I now use these cards to move video files around, but because of the FAT 32 file format, 4 gig is the biggest single file size I can put on the card, even though it has an overall capacity of much more. Takeaway ... be sure the firmware and processor in your device will support a card of this capacity before you purchase one.
Works well, just got it.

I would say 5 stars but have not filled it up. A friend said a 120 GB card from China only took 4 GB, but this could be due to gear.
The Lexar 4 GB is the outer limit for use in the Nikon D70 camera, and only the Lexar brand at this size, so I grabbed it. I took a photo and it was fine, uploaded routinely, and rendered well in PhotoShop. I will probably never fill it up unless I start shooting photos in RAW. Where the number of available photos appears in the camera data window there is a cryptic 1.1 but that does not affect use. Card is by no means completely tested, but I like it.

fast perfect for older dSLR with a max of 30mbps transfer

I don't have a top of the line dSLR, but it isn't junk either, so choosing the right card is important. The capacity is adequate because it is just enough to fit on a single DVD for archiving. The card maxes out at 30mbps which is as high as my card reader can handle. Also, it is not a bottleneck for the camera when shooting in high-speed. It WILL do 70 exposures of jpeg like an M16. It creates the problem of taking TOO MANY pics that it is now time consuming to screen each exposure during post-processing due to the sheer number of pictures taken. Best CF card that I have for the price. I will buy several more over the next few months.
