This is a very accurate, easy to read & operate 'in the ear' thermometer. It takes 1 second only to take a reading & is simplicity to operate - touch the ear drum with the end probe, press the scan button & release, a small beep will be heard & the temperature is read out on the large digital display in either Fahrenheit or Centigrade (your choice). For a normal temperature the display is green, for a higher than normal teperature the display changes to orange & for a high temperature the display is red.No covers are required for the probe, it's simply a wipe clean job. It will also store in it's memory the last 8 readings. It runs on a (supplied) long lasting Lithium battery & the unit itself is guaranteed for 5 years. This thermometer surely beats in the mouth, under arm or rectal thermometers & it is suitable for all ages from babies to the aged. I highly recommend it.

*First time you press SCAN it DOES NOT read NEW temperature; it just turns on and shows the LAST temperature. We press SCAN before ear insertion to turn it on. Then insert and press SCAN. It then reads NEW temperature. Else you think it is showing a bad reading (which is really the last one done).
*If your temp is showing in Centigrade, you get a bad temp that makes you think you are freezing . "To change to Fahrenheit whilst the unit is on, press & hold the SCAN button. Whilst holding the SCAN button press the Memory (M) button & it will switch." The quote is from another helpful reviewer but included here.
