When I first set this up it was nice and quiet. Now it's 11 months later and I'm about to throw it out. For the past 2 months or so it has been slowly getting louder and louder. I've cleaned it until it's spotless, let it run in vinegar for a while, and nothing helps. However for the size it is very powerful.

After a couple months the impeller began to rattle on its shaft as though there was too much slop between the shaft and impeller. It would simply stop at times and need to be disassembled to free the impeller again. Yesterday it was making such a racket as the impeller rattled around, and nothing I did would fix it, so I tossed it.

I like these pumps for pico tanks, and other very small applications. While I'm not convinced they produce a full 300 gph, they are pretty "high flow" for such a tiny pump. At less than 1/2 the size of a maxi jet, they fit where the competition can't.

Wow I used this pump to add lower circulation to my 10 gallon tank. It's small, comes with a stand that holds it in place, as shown in my photo I put that part in the rocks. This is possible because the intake is the red part near the outake. It's flow rate can go from almost 0 to the full 70 gph ajustable. Which is perfect for any small tank! However I would not use this in a tank larger than 10 gallons. 20 gallon go with the 100 or greater.
