Two Person Ikea-like Assembly - Solid and Attractive

The daybed and trundle parts and hardware arrive in three rather substantial boxes. They are large, heavy and awkward and I found it easiest to open the boxes carefully in the garage and carry the parts to the room for assembly. There were a few "rubs" here and there on the finish but not to a degree that takes away from the overall attractive appearance. The directions are well described. There are machined allen bolts that fit into embedded nuts in the furniture. You will need a helper to assemble the frame of the daybed itself, unless you want to rest the bigger panels on cardboard boxes or other support as you align the rear panel, side panels and front crossing frame. The trundle does not require assistance.
The main daybed is about 79 inches long and 39 inches wide on the inside where the mattress sits, which makes for a snug fit for the twin XL mattress. The trundle is standard twin sized.
There was one defective bolt, and a slight defect where the finish did not quite line up where the panels were attached but Hillsdale customer service was very helpful in quickly providing replacement bolts and a cherry stain pen to fill the slight line which was unfinished.
This is an attractive and solid piece of hardwood furniture which we will use for overnight guests and relatives.

Good solid wood base to work with.Some of the directions are not clear. Could not figure out how to use the metal locking device looking at the diagram. Finally, I figured it out given the hollow circle indentations. l had to change a few things. I did not use the wooden slats provided. Went to my local lumber yard and had them cut 5/8" AC plywood sheets for the top bed andcthe trundle bed. I had read other reviews and used the same idea. I also went a step further and reinforced the inside corners with L shaped metal

This is a great bed. It looks as good in person as it does online. The only issue were the side rails. One was delivered broken, but we called the company and they were quick to replace it. Then, not 2 months later, we sat on the edge of the bed and it broke. My husband is pretty handy so he was able to reinforce it. The problem is the attachment of the rail to the side is only a screw so once he put a brace in it, it has held up for over 2 years. So with a little modification, it is a beautiful bed.

Love the bed! It's perfect for my 2year old toddlers room. Also love that if I need room for a sleepover guest I have the option to pull out the trundle with out having to take up extra space when not being used. Only reason I did not give it a full 5 stars is because it had a few minor imperfections/knicks on the bed frame we noticed when putting it together.
All in all though it's the perfect bed for a kids room or guest bedroom. It was super easy to put together. And works well in smaller spaces/rooms.

We needed a bed to replace a pack and play that our granddaughter was sleeping in the night each week that she spends with us. The bed arrived in several large cartons and I was a little concerned about the assembly. But my husband put it together when I was at work, and he said it was easy to do. The bed looks so cute and I wish I had a picture of my granddaughter's face when she first saw it. She just loves it and though I assumed she would want to sleep in the trundle portion (because it's closer to the floor) she mostly sleeps in the top -- but loves moving from one to the other, so mostly the trundle is pulled out. Over all the quality is great. It's sturdy, the finish is very pretty and the trundle (though heavy/sturdy/solid) slides in and out smoothly.
