Could be better.

I had high hopes for this hoist but it didn't meet my needs. First of all, it's of good quality and looks good. Thus the three stars.

1 star was lost because the hoist drops unevenly. The front of the bike first. The pulleys also allow the rope to slide in between the pulley frame and the pulley wheel. This wasn't thought out well.

1 more star lost because of the size. I have an XL bike and the pulley distance was too short. The Aluminum frame needs to be another 4-6 inches to work properly. But since the mounting points cannot exceed a certain length, I can't fix this.

So, it's a cool concept that could work well for smaller bikes if it had better pulleys.

If I were looking at this one again, but the RAD pulley system that's half the price and then a 2x4. You'll be happier.
Perfect, sturdy solution to get a bike up out of the way.

Such a well made product. I was happy to see that this product is solidly built and works perfectly. It is easy to assemble, set up and mount. I put it all together, then mounted to the ceiling. The pulleys work great to lift my mountain bike up 11 feet to my garage ceiling. It lowers like a dream and the catch system works smoothly when I need to stop mid way down or up.

The only thing that was a negative is that, during mounting, I snapped off 3 of the screw heads. I was screwing straight into studs with a drill/driver. The screws seem thick enough but must be a cheaper alloy.
Not as easy to pull up a bike as it looks on the video.

Aesthetically, this looks a lot nicer than similar cheaper alternatives that recommends using a 2x4, so I decided to try this. I ordered two units to start and installed them today. The predrilled holes were not centered in one of the two that I bought so the track pulleys could not be adjusted beyond the second screw on both ends so I have one unit that I could not adjust correctly, which isn't much of a problem as it still works ok in pulling the bike up. I installed each unit along the joists so I could put in screws on all 5 of the predrilled holes, whereas you can only put in three screws if you install this perpendicular to the joists. I have a relatively old and heavy steel bike, probably 50 lbs. While I could pull it up, it was not as easy as seen on the video, and I found it much more effective to pull the rope while pushing the bike upwards. I was worried that I'd pull the unit down from the ceiling with the amount of force I had to use to pull the bike up, but it didn't. I tried my son's 16 inch kids bike which is much lighter and it was much easier to pull up without having to push the bike up, but still requires more effort than I had expected. The video makes it look so easy! An annoying thing to get use to is the pulley wheels near the hooks have a lot of space between the wheels and the fixture holding the wheel in place, so while there is not much tension on the rope when you are trying to hook the bike up, the rope tends to fall off the wheels, and you have to make sure to realign the rope to the wheel before pulling the bike up. Despite all of this, I just ordered 3 more for the other bikes in the garage as this is a relatively inexpensive solution for allowing me to once again park my second car in my 2-car garage, something I couldn't do with 5 bikes on the floor or along the wall.
A disappointing bike lift
It wasn't meOctober 14, 2016
This lift is terrible. I previously bought the pair of lifts from the same manufacturer and they worked great. The main problem with this lift is the awful way the rope is routed through the mechanism. Some of the other reviewers attached pics of their rope showing how frayed it became after using the lift. It's not an exaggeration. The other problem I have is the rope comes off the pulley that is attached to the lifting hooks. You almost need an extra set of hands to make sure the rope stays on the pulley and doesn't slip off as you begin to lift. I would not buy this again.
This is an excellent ceiling mount bike rack system
leeleeJune 7, 2016
This is an excellent ceiling mount bike rack system. It was easy to install and very sturdy. If your ceiling isn't concrete, don't forget to use a 2x2 stud to secure the rack onto drywall ceiling studs. The only negative--included rope is cheap and frays too quickly. I recommend discarding the rope or else risk dropping your bike after 3-4 uses. Instead invest in solid braid marine rope - the best is "Shoreline Marine Multi-Purpose Solid Braid Nylon Line, 1/4-Inch x 100-Feet" for $9.81 at Amazon. This marine rope is very sturdy, won't fray and fits perfectly on the pulley wheels. Do make sure to use a cigarette lighter to burn the rope ends after cutting to desired length.
