A Very Good Value

I am quite critical when it comes to product selection. Overall, this has been an excellent purchase. The 50 Ft hose length, flexibility of the hose, and toughness of the hose is good. The unit is built very well, is quiet, and in my opinion, has excellent suction. The attachment section of the hose is lightweight plastic, and appears up to this point to be durable. The "suction" reducer port on the top of the attachment section tends to open unnoticed - I think that could be improved. The floor attachment, which is similar to that which would be used inside a home, is made well, but seems to pull debris backward on the back stroke rather than sucking it up - I think this is another area for improvement. I have a relative that has the Hoover, but that product comes with a shorter hose length, 30 ft for that particular unit. The instructions for assembly are very basic, so fortunately, it is relatively obvious how to put the system together, and there is not much that you will need to assemble. I do not recall seeing in the instructions that the attachment section extends, but discovered that on my own. My garage faces west, so it constantly gets debris and leaves blown into it. The vacuum makes quick work of the leaves and any dirt that is tracked in through the tire treads of lawn/garden equipment. I like the flexibility of the hose which is especially nice for vacuuming automotive interiors. A very good investment that I wish I had done years ago.
It Certainly Does Suck!

I'm sure we have all been there: new car, small child, and graham crackers. Sure enough, what should have been an innocuous, wholesome visit to the local Christmas light neighborhood soon became a horror of crumbs, headless Teddy Graham bears, and various other food objects that somehow made it into the car unnoticed. Before even the first Inflatable Lawn Santa was spotted, the backseat of my otherwise pristine sedan was a minefield of processed fiber. Trying to remove the car seat later that night only made things worse, of course, as I slowly ground the crumbs into a fine sandy mash. What was I to do? The backseat of my car looked like the beach threw up all over my fine cloth upholstery.
Enter the VacuMaid GV50! Sporting an incredibly powerful vacuum mechanism and a long hose attachment, not only was I able to remove the offending particles, it even grabbed other various entities that I had no idea were even in the car. Cat hair? Gone! Kid hair? Gone! Loose change? Gone! The VacuMaid GV50 was a machine of suction satisfaction, restoring my car to an extremely presentable transportation vehicle for the next time my extremely discerning, though otherwise plastered, friends needed a ride home from the local bar. They had no idea that less than 24 hours beforehand the very seats they were now occupying were previously the property of a 3-year-old and her evening snack.
Mounted in the garage, this vacuum is an electric behemoth, frightened by no mess or spill. The next time I make a brilliant decision to allow a toddler into my car with an entire bag of wholesome crackers, I'll do so knowing that I have the VacuMaid GV50 at my side, ready to defend the honor of my sedan, and restore it to a state of abundant class.

This works great, but not the same as the one I got from Home Dep...

The vacuum works like a champ! It's very quiet and has great suction. This is the second one I bought since I liked the first one so much. The first time I bought one, Amazon had a higher price. So I bought the first one from a big box store. That one came with a chrome plated metal wand. For the second one, I checked the prices again, and Jeff Bezos had one that was cheaper by ten or fifteen bucks. So I bought that one. It is the exact same vacuum that is quiet and works great, but the wand is some cheapo plastic thing that is not even close to the first one I bought. It doesn't impact the operation of the unit at all, but just beware there may be minor differences in what is labeled as the same product. Now to get Amazon credit, they show in the picture one with a cheapo plastic want.

It arrived 3 days after I ordered it which was a pleasant surprise. It was just one box, which was packed very well to prevent shipping damage, and contained all the accessories, hose, vacuum unit itself and the hardware.
The installation was very easy, with a feature that I found to be well thought out: the metal brackets that mount to the wall have rubber grommets to reduce vibration. It may sound like a small detail, but it prevents the wooden wall of my garage from acting as a sounding board.
I had the unit unpacked, installed and tested in about 8 minutes, and most of that was walking down to my shed to get the tools (#2 Phillips head bit in my DeWalt drill and a 7/16" ratchet).
I used the unit for a few minutes and was impressed with several things: first, the suction was better than what I expected; definitely better than our in-house central vacuum system. Second, the quality of the hose and attachments was well above what I have seen in other devices...e.g. crush-proof hose, all natural bristles on the attachments, and the hose ends seemed very sturdy. Also the outlet is positioned on the left side of the wall unit at the bottom so access is very convenient if you want to use this as a blower for "sweeping" out the garage, or inflating pool floats. My Wife has used it several times since installation and absolutely loves it.
Lastly, I would just like to remind readers that what swayed me most was that this product is made in America. I'm not a big flag waver, but I really want to buy products that are going to put my neighbors back to work. Hopefully you do too!

VacuMaid GV50 Garage Vacuum is Great!
Dog Walker✓ Verified Purchase•March 11, 2024
Ok Folks! I waited over a year to post this review of the VacuMaid GV50 so that I could give it a super good test. I am a professional dog walker with a very large NEW 2015 Nissan Passenger Truck that I recently purchased and replaced the seats with dog crates. I taxi approx.12 dogs a day to off-leash dog parks in all kinds of weather where they pick up mud, foxtails, burs and shed tons of dog hair in my truck on the way. When I got this beautiful new truck, I vowed I would get a new system to keep it pristine and make my life easier instead of using my big black and orange Black and Decker Shop Vac. The problem with the Shop Vac was that it was very heavy and clumsy and I had to drag it into the truck in order to reach the far away crevices. Major Pain In The Butt! Also, the hose and tools were not refined enough to get all the park dirt, leaves and dog hair or fit under the seats, etc. At first, I thought that the GV50 did not have much suction, but after using it for awhile, I changed my mind about that. It has great suction for the autos, but not so good for the dirt in the garage. The one thing I absolutely love about the GV50 is that it has a really long hose that reaches around the whole of my 20 foot truck. There is not one space in my truck that is not easily reached with this hose and long wand. It also has a beautiful silver shimmer and looks expensive while coiled on my driveway next to my beautiful truck. Another thing that I love is that it has HUGE Hepa Filter bags! I am now changing the bag for the first time and it has been over a year and I vacuum up tons of dog hair and dirt on a weekly basis. I never attached mine to the wall, but put it on a short stool and it works great that way! Now, the only thing that I don't like is the way the hose connects to the vacuum canister. Maybe I am not doing it right? Or I am missing a piece? This is why I gave it 4 starts. But this connection often has to be redone. Overall, this is the only inconvenience that I can see with this unit. It works really well and I am so glad I got it. It is not noisy when using for the auto because the vacuum stays in the garage and just the hose follows you out to the car in the driveway. It makes my life cleaning my commercial vehicle much much easier and faster than before.
