buy from another producer who doesn't cheap out and cut the wires too short
Dal Gal✓ Verified Purchase•July 14, 2018
I ordered 2. One does not work and the light remains on continually so I'll have to replace it. As to both, the wires are SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than the devices I was replacing. The incredibly short wires made installation more difficult than it should have been. I wouldn't buy this product again. I am going to have to buy a different product from another company to replace the faulty one since I don't want the EXTREME hassle of fighting to make proper connections in a narrow light post with super short wires. That makes this a total waste of the money I paid for at least one.
Also, instructions not adequate.

So much simpler and cheaper than a timer.

The first one that I installed before the winter, to control lights in the front of the house, still works perfectly well, although I did not not place it in a water-proof box. I just installed another one for the back yard lights. It is so much cheaper and simpler than a timer that adjust automatically to the length of the day. Just make sure that the "eye" is not illuminated by the light fixture. Occasional passing car at night, or moving shadow during the day, will not affect the photo-switch because of a few minutes delay in the devices response. This is a great product.

Just received this and wanted to add some information. The side view is not shown in any photos and I wanted to included that here. The depth is about 1" from the back of the wall plate when taking into account room for the protruding wires. The instructions on the back of the unit are actually clearer than those on the back of the package:
Red connects to your light's positive wire.
Black connects to your circuit's hot wire.
Neutral connects to the circuit's neutral and the light's neutral.

Perfect for my application

Works perfectly. Comes with o-rings and lock nut.
No instructions included, so I suggest that you read the 3-star review that included a wiring diagram. It'll save you time and potential trouble. Otherwise, you need to understand the difference in hot/neural/return/load and meter the wires, but you can just blindly follow the diagram..
You need your own wire nuts or whatever.
I used it with an old Malibu transformer/timer for low-voltage lighting whose photocell and timer went out. The transformer was good, but the lights stayed on all the time. I cut the plug on the old Malibu unit and hard-wired this into the circuit. It seemed like where the wires enter the photocell need to have the water kept out if the unit is exposed, so I used caulk.
I stress that this unit is for 110 AC volts and not 12 V.
I asked a couple of lighting professionals how to fix my problem and they had far more expensive suggestions. This was cheap an cost effective even if it only lasts for a while.

PRO:
1. WOrks great.
2. Easy to wire if you follow the directions in the other reviews, that one guy posted a wire diagram, that was helpful.
3. Black and TWO nuts and rubber washers, to keep the rain out.
CON:
1. Little on the big side, I thought this was about 3/4" x 3/8" but sadly it's more like 1.5" x 1" x 1" so was a tight fit inside the outlet box.
2. Instructions are a little weak in my opinion.
3. Time will tell how long this lasts.
OTHER:
1. BUY if you need a photo sensor switch.
2. DON'T BUY if you think this a small / tinny version of the common photo sensor.
