The pressure of holding it steady with my hand causes it to stick if used on anything other than a single piece of paper on a perfectly flat hard surface. Every rotational/sticking problem I had was solved by using masking tape to hold it on place. This kept it perfectly steady while relieving any pressure put on the rotating template by my hand pressing down too hard on the edge (plus, now my left hand isn't in the way while I draw). If it does still stick when using (rare), it remains in the exact position so I can just adjust and continue from where my line broke.
The rotating template also slides from side to side slightly, which can cause "tails" at the start/end points of my circles if I'm not careful (see photo). This is easily mitigated by making sure I've used my pen/pencil to pull the template to the edge before touching down to the page and maintaining the tension while I draw. It can take a couple tries to get the hang of it, but once you do it works great.
The biggest problem I have with it, and why I had to knock it down to a 4 instead of a 5, is the template has a tiny little bump in the 1/8 circle stencil where the plastic was not cut properly, causing my pens and pencils to catch and cause imperfections. It's not as noticeable using my liner pens as it is with pencil, but thicker pens can really get stuck on it and bleed quite a bit on the page (see photo). I can probably use a rolled up piece of sand paper to fix it, but I shouldn't have to. Having an imperfection in something used to make circles is a serious quality control issue.
For the price point, it's good. I like it better than traditional compasses because it doesn't put a hole in the center of my page or canvas. It has some issues that are easily solved with masking tape and a little skill. It's just the quality control issue with the 1/8 circle stencil that causes a real problem.
