Very useful and the price is right!

I'm gonna have to go ahead and give this player 5 stars even though there are two little issues I have with it. First one is that it won't let you 'nest' folders on a usb drive. For instance, if you have a folder named 'Rock' and within that folder you have two folders named 'Rush' and 'Heart' and then within the Rush folder you have two more folders named 'Moving Pictutes' and 'Signals' and within those album named folders are the actual MP3 song files.....WELLLLLL, when you stick the USB drive in the Teac player it will only recognize the folder holding the files. So, in this example, 'Rock', 'Rush' and 'Heart' would not even show up. The work around would be to use all descriptors in the same folder name. For instance, name one folder 'Rock-Rush-Moving Pictures' and put the song files for that album in that folder. Although I don't use the 'record CD to USB' feature, you need to be aware that it can only record MP3s as high as a 192 bit rate. 256 and 320 are NOT an option. Other than those two things, this CD player is pretty much perfect. Build quaity seems good. Sound quality, great.
Purchased Nov 2016 / dead April 2017

Just checked purchase date: November 2016.
A few weeks back it began acting wonky, sometimes playing CDs, sometimes not.
Then started getting "sled error" messages, which meant no CD would play.
The player has sat in the very same place since it came out of the box.
We bought this unit because we'd had one years ago that had lasted for years.
But not this one.
I'll likely box it up and send it in for repairs -- which should be covered 100% -- but what a bother.
A CD player that, with gentle use and no trauma, can't last a couple of years at least? The CD player in my car has lasted over 10 years, and it's been gets abused by potholes everyday!

Steer clear of TEAC there are quality issues.

I purchased this unit TEAC CD-P650 and eventually it stopped reading discs after a period of time. The unit was manufactured in 2013 so I have had it for about 4 years. A few years ago it stopped reading discs, the error message indicated the laser needed to be adjusted. $45 dollars later a local shop had it working again. Most recently it stopped working again and a complete unit disc transport and laser unit must be purchased to fix the unit. At this point we can still use it with the iPod to play music but since the repair is $145 for parts alone we are not going to get it fixed. We are going to look for a new one but will steer clear of TEAC from now on.
Good value for the price

Good value for the price. I'm pleased with the sound quality. I use it for CDs and iPod. The sound quality is noticeable better than compared to playing the iPod over bluetooth or analog input (as I was doing before). The CD quality is about the same as the one I replaced that cost twice as much many years back.
The design is a little old. For example, the manual references the gen 5 iPod nano as the latest nano it supports, suggesting that it was designed in 2009-2010. It seems to work ok with my gen 7 nano, but the extended mode operation is awkward and remote button mapping is not intuitive, so I avoid it altogether and just use direct. Also, I have a few old CDs (from the early 80s) that it refuses to play that my PC has no trouble with. One other little gripe -- it autoplays on power on and I'd rather it wait till I press play. I suppose some might view this as a feature though.

Excellent Unit! Especially considering the price.

This unit has exceeded all of my expectations. The Compact Disc player works flawlessly and sounds great. The real surprise here is how good the USB .mp3 files sound. To me, it seems fairly clear that this is the portion of this combination unit that is most useful now that the mp3 market has virtually made the compact disc obsolete. Through this USB input I am able to play my .mp3 files and folders in almost any fashion I desire, single song repeat, folder repeat, entire USB repeat and shuffle play. The sound is better than that of any other .mp3 player I have ever listened to. I am hearing an openness and nuances of sound that heretofore I had only heard on an actual compact disc. The price makes this unit especially attractive. Negatives? I have found none yet and I have been listening to the unit almost non-stop since it has arrived. If you decide to purchase this, expect to hear your .mp3 files as never before. I recommend this to anyone!
