I've had this for years, running it occasionally to correlate it with known air quality issues in my area. I can't say that I've tested it side by side with more expensive equipment, but it seems to produce plausible (non-jumpy) results. The serial port interface is easy to work with. Just get a DB9-USB adapter, configure the TTY to 9600 baud (see the manual for full details), and the device will output CSV of particle counts at different sizes every minute.

The seller has a 30 day return policy. The Manufacturer has a 90-day warranty against " defects in material or workmanship." Well, you can say one thing for them, they know their build quality. It worked well enough up until one week past the 90 day warranty.

The readings started jumping + / - 4000 small particles over the course of a minute or so & now it just reads 0 / 0. It has been treated delicately.

$300 is a TON for this device, even if it worked reliably. It is certainly excessive for a product that only lasted 3 months of delicate, intermittent use.
Also, why a serial port instead of usb? What is this, 1987? Logging through the serial port only updates once a minute. So annoying. In general, this product has the feel of having been designed by a hobbyist as a "first real product."

If you have the skills, I think you are much better off making one from scratch using a grove dust sensor and a raspberry pi. It will cost you roughly 20% of what this one costs and at least with that one you can just replace a $10 part when / if it breaks.

I can't compare this to other devices but has surpassed my expectations except I not sure I'd spring for the serial port if I had it all to do over again.
