I have 70% gray hair, the Dark Cool Espresso Brown color is beautiful, but it only cover 50% of my gray roots although i did massage the foam over my grey hair multiple times. I did everything by the instructions, and do more than asked to make sure the color stay: I wrapped my hair w food wrapper, and waited 38 minutes before washing my hair w warm water and apply w conditioner included in the box. Too bad, it doesn't work on my gray root, although the color looks beautiful on the rest of my hair.

I must go back to the traditional formula.

LOVES this, this is my go to dye for the last 2-3 years. You cannot mess this up and you can do it all by yourself which is why it is the BESTEST!! I use the Medium Golden Brown and it is PERFECT match to my natural hair. I get a few grey's here and there, more like I have this little patch on the side and it's just at the roots. Every 3 months I'll use this to give me a fresh look, I LOVE it, I can't find at any store so I have to order here on Amazon. I bottle gives me FULL coverage and I have LONG hair, like middle of my back all one length and I don't even use the full bottle.
I'll put on my roots for 15-20 minutes then I put in the rest of my hair and let set for another 20 minutes or so then wash out. Leaves my hair looking and feeling GREAT. It never dries me out and the color holds until I apply again. No one ever ask or notices I colored my hair which I LOVE.

Great quality product! Love John Frieda Foam Color!! Covers those grey hairs perfectly! No mess, no stains! Heck, it's cheaper to buy it on Amazon than to go to a store to buy it!

Love this stuff and this color. Foam is super, less damaging than any liquid I've used (over 20 yrs of home color) and you this magical clear gloss with it to smooth you right up. I should mention I historically use either light or medium 'warm' brown, depending on the season, for a touch of red but wishing for more. Reds on the purple end look super purple fake on me but this one is on the orange side so I get my red without the cheap 'grocery store dye' look. Did not turn my hair orange, just to be clear, want to point out how NOT purple this is.

I bought mine from a drugstore; but I am a big review reader so I wanted to offer mine! I have been a long time home-hair color girl, some hits some misses, but I'm pretty good at getting it done myself! When I first put the mousse on just my roots I was a little nervous; the "dark brown" didn't look very dark on my roots & I was a little afraid there wouldn't be complete coverage since I didn't have the normal goopy-saturated feel you get with liquid/creme dyes. I left it on my roots for about 15 minutes since my hair is much lighter than this naturally, (I was touching up from a different home color so I was only about a shade lighter everywhere but roots), and then pulled it through the ends for another 10. I rinsed, conditioned, etc. like the directions suggest, then put the leave-in shine treatment in my towel dried hair, (kind of like John Frieda's version of biosilk, it comes with this product). I was still a little nervous about root coverage since that's always my biggest complaint with home colors- uneven roots/ends even with appropriate time differences.
I blow dried and was absolutely SHOCKED I was so happy with the color result! I almost always end up a shade or 2 darker than I want but the color fades into the right shade over the next week or 2, (which means it also dulls some over that time period), but this came out pretty much exactly as the box example color looks, it was shiny, smelled great, was TOTALLY EVEN, & soft/healthy feeling.

I will be using this from now on- I have fine/thin, medium length hair, to just below my shoulders, and one bottle was just right with a tiny bit to spare and I saturated it VERY thoroughly. If you have extra thick or long hair you may want to get 2 bottles.
