Works well.

For the price this works great and seems sturdy. My only gripe was that it only has (2) back srews to hold it in place and not one in the front (I have a 2009 mackbook Pro 13inch and 15 inch) I was putting these into and so it's not 100% secured in the computer without the front screw, but it works for its purpose.
Easy install, works great. Identical to items from other sellers

Fit a 2011 13" MacBook Pro perfectly, and the drive was recognized with no problems. Speeds seem sufficient, but the connector on the machine is a SATA II, so I'd only use the optical bay for a platter HDD. Other laptops might use the faster SATA III.
I ordered another drive caddy with a different brand name sticker attached to it, but the items were completely identical, down to the display card that comes in the package. In my opinion there is no need to buy an item like this branded specifically for Macs.
I've seen some reviews claim that the build quality is low, but it seems great to me. It's basically a sheet metal and plastic holder with a SATA connector, but I'm not sure what else you need. It seems well made enough for $8. It comes with 4 screws to hold the drive in place, and a screwdriver.
One note would be to remove the bracket from the back of the original optical drive and affix it to the caddy before installation, so the back has a way to mount to the computer. Installation took all of 10 minutes.

this felt to me cheaply made. with that being said im giving it 5 stars because its been near a year later and its still working 100% without a single hitch. worked very well.
It has issues, if you are ready for them it's not a problem

I did read the reviews and knew this caddy would have issues, but just couldn't justify spending the $25 on the "official" one of these. Here is the rundown:
PROS:
- Hard drive fits in the caddy great
- Made of metal so it is nice and sturdy
- SATA connection is not loose or wobbly
- Screwdriver included did come in handy, however it is too big for the actual screws but helped with other parts of taking the laptop apart
CONS:
- Weird sticky plastic wrapping is awkward and very difficult to remove before inserting
- Missing one of the critical mounting points so a command strip had to be placed under the caddy to keep it from putting stress on the bluetooth and wifi connections
- Screw "holes" are actually rounded slits which makes getting the screws in very challenging, and for me it became a 2 person job
Overall this caddy worked for what I wanted it to and once I was able to troubleshoot all of the issues, it seems to be functioning as expected. If you have patience and the willingness to do some workarounds in order to save $17 it is well worth it.

This fit and works perfect. I was able to take out the DVD rom out of my mid-2012 MacBook pro that was never used. Now it houses my old 500gb HD after placing a SSD HD in its place.
