why waste the steal
Charlie M.•August 12, 2017
It is the only one you can buy for the swagman's because they use a wierd 1/2" versus 5/8". The problem is that you have to buy washers or nuts or something to take up the EXTRA 2" OF LENGTH ON THIS THING. LOL. I mean, why waste the steal? Why make this things larger than the receivers they are designed for???
Wrong threading (metric) and way too long, not universal as claimed.
Harrison Merrill•April 15, 2017
Its a 1/2" bolt with aa metric threading, making it NOT universal but in fact totally useless, since nothing uses metric threads with imperial sizes. With some research, it will fit THEIR proprietary parts, which wont fit any one else's bolts. Since these are marketed as "Universal" and the packaging and webpage says nothing about the alternative threading pitch, it's very misleading.

If you don't use the threaded portion, the extreme length of the bolt makes it both less-than secure and wobbly, which defeats the purpose of the product.
Swagman threaded lockable bolt
Hootch•December 8, 2016
The swagman does a great job anti-wobble does a great job locking in the bike rack. That said, I didn't give it 5 stars because the bolt is way too long. It takes a while to thread and sticks out much too far from the hitch. It would have been better to have a system where you do a quarter turn by hand and it locks in place. Other than that it does a great job securing your bike rack. I've driven over minor bumbs on the road and I noticed there was little shake, Pretty solid overall.
seems to use a non-standard thread
Megan•September 16, 2016
Made from soft steel. Most pins, especially meant for security, use a hardened steel bolt with six radius dashes indicating 'grade 8'. This is soft and easy to cut with a hacksaw. Does not fit Yakima hitches and seems to use a non-standard thread. The lock looks like it might work the Yakima bolt but it does not. This is of no use to us and I'll try to return it.
This is a stupid product. Don't sell it for 1 1/4" hitches ...
Ryan T. Eberly•June 25, 2016
This is a stupid product. Don't sell it for 1 1/4" hitches if it's going to stick out 2 inches from the side. Also, if you have a fold-down rack like the XP series, you'll need TWO locking pins to actually secure the rack and bikes to the vehicle. One for the hitch attachment and one for part where the pins allow it to fold down. Now I feel stupid for buying this damn rack if I have to spend an extra $70 on locks. There goes any savings over the big name brands.
