This card will use a bunch of minutes even if you reach a voicemail and hang up immediately. I purchased several and I gave it to my son to use while in boot camp and it was fine for our purposes because for those 7 weeks I was expecting his call, I never went without my phone and if he called, I would hang up on whoever I was talking to.
Great value for occasional brief long distance calls.

Just as I refuse to pay for a monthly cell phone contract; I don't pay for a monthly long distance service. I used to use Penny Talk until their rates went up significantly. For now, this cars works for me.
