Pencils for this price?? YES! Oh YES! if you've never used them you don't know how good they are at high heat and the marks they make are durable. Darker metals or darker conditions just use the silver one. The red works the same way but is not as easy to see as you can imagine still, it is very easy to note on lighter surfaces. Both work on more than just metal, you'll want to have them around in pockets, tool bags and boxes.
Works just fine for me.

I am a welder/fabricator and have tried out a number of making utensils for use in the shop including scribes, soapstone, Grease pencils, sharpies, and more.

The silver pencil and the mechanical version are my favorites. They both make a very clean and fine line on mill scale and clean metal. It isn't as visible when the metal is ground or polished, but that is to be expected.

Here are some pros and cons as well as a comparison to the mechanical silver streak pencil.

Pros:
Crisp line
Goes on smooth
Can be sharpened in a pencil sharpener or with a knife
Can be wiped off if you make a mistake but still stays put
Slightly harder "lead" than the mechanical version

Cons:
The red pencil is only really visible on shiny metal
As it gets shorter it becomes harder to pull out of a work pouch pen holder.
Inconvenient to go to a sharpener or sharpen by hand

I use both this and the mechanical version. I find this is most useful in a workshop where you can use a sharpener or stop to use your knife.

The mechanical version functions better when in a larger work environment where you are constantly working in different areas and don't necessarily have time to stop and sharpen your pencil.

Both have their merits and i hope my review was helpful.

I will definitely but again.
Works as it should

Writes on most types of metal. Most Metal Men are familiar with this brand so there's not much to say except I recommend this because of the quality and the price. these are not flimsy and are not easy to break like some brands. for the money it's well worth it.
for metal work, not paper

the pencil lead broke all the time, and it is a pain to sharpen, but i used it often when i was able to not break the lead.

i used light pressure and it still broke a lot, the lead is just soft and maybe it was broken iin the manufacturing process and i just got the results when i tried to use it
