I was a bit worried I was making too much of a compromise... and I'm glad to report I was proven wrong.
Well packed, promptly shipped and worked out very well.
I purchased a second unit and repeat I am pleased.
I installed at two large homes, with double 8 ohm speakers at each channel (4 ohm load)... and no issues.
The intent was nice background music, even party music, but at a volume one could still speak OK with others.
They worked out perfect.
Just tweak the volume setting at the MAX you would ever want the volume to be (with source of music at max as well), and any lower volume is what you will normally listen to.
In both homes I found that normal in-wall volume controls did not fit my gang boxes, so I simply installed instead a switch that allows the music to be clicked on or off, the volume is pre-adjusted as I had explained, even remotely as an airport express handles the music and at my hand I control with the phone the selection and volume.

This amplifier works great, and the return policy is exemplary. I had this amp for about a year, and it got damaged in a power surge. I was able to return it with no hassles, and I received a new one right away. The new amp has not missed a beat in two and a half years now.
