A great vent mount with a major issue
Richard L✓ Verified Purchase•May 22, 2018
I have a TomTom VIA1525TM gps unit and it fits this mount very well. On the trips we have taken it on it holds the unit firmly and has no ill effect on the vent. However, that being said there was one major issue. The gps has about one hour of use on the battery before it must be put on the charger. There is no provision to connect the cable with the unit in the mount. With the gps centered up in the mount the plug socket is completely covered. I like the mount so decided to fix that issue myself. With my Dremel grinder I fashioned a notch measuring about one half inch by three quarters of an in in the side of the back of the mount directly over the plug socket. Problem solved. The mount has TomTom's name on it so I would have thought that someone there would have seen this issue coming up. Otherwise, a very nice vent mount.
Plastic Clips aren't durable and unit can't overcome steep dashboards

Bought two of these (optimistic that they would work), and both had the same problem - the legs of the clips break off. I called Tom Tom and they don't offer replacement parts.
The angle of my dashboard vents on both cars (Toyota Carolla, 2005 and Mazda 3, 2010) is too steep for the plastic clips on the back of the unit, and the unit can't be positioned to overcome the angle. The unit remains sloped upward (not flat/plumb) and therefore, the screen isn't visible.
The clips can rotate and slide, but even with re-positioning of the vent louvers, the clips can't take the stress. I did glue and wire-tie the clips back together, but the viewing angle doesn't work.
I eventually bought an IPow device which has a metal, spring-loaded clip, which is much better.

Dangerous product could cause accident! I tried it with a TOMTOM 5" VIA1515 the weight of the mount and GPS are too much for the clips to hold in the vent. It was on a 2014 Ford Fusion non turbo 4 cyl vehicle. The amazing G forces generated by this supercar caused the GPS to fly off the dash and into my arms within the first mile. Further efforts to insert more securely to the vents resulted in one of the clips breaking off.
Save your money unless you are willing to superglue it to your air vent.

Universal Air Vent Mount is Not Universal
Leonard Mayer✓ Verified Purchase•February 24, 2016
The Universal Air Vent Mount is not compatible with the Garmin 2797 LMT 7 inch GPS. The handles on top and bottom do not reach over both top and bottom edges of GPS. Moreover the edge piece connector on back of GPS comes off because there is no room for it while attached and the bottom on bottom of GPS, the ejector for edge piece connector, is being pushed in. Moreover if your car bent is too close to the steering wheel, then the lever that turns on the wiper blades for rain is blocked. So you can't keep the air vent mount attached. It falls off readily. You need to have an air vent to the right of the steering wheel where the radio usually is so that it is out of the way of your steering wheel. So you must take these considerations into account before you purchase this item.
Doesn't fit EVERY GPS model, but MOST models

This plastic mounting allows you to place your GPS over the AC vent on your dash... A great idea! It's made fairly idiot-proof, although through experimentation I was able to determine that it only worked a particular way on my car's vent (Chrysler Pacifica). I was a little disappointed by the fact that my TomTom GPS has a permanently attached mount which is thick enough to interfere with the security of the clamps, making it possible for the GPS to fall out occasionally. Having said that, my earlier TomTom models fit the mount perfectly. Clamp tightens with simple hand pressure; no awkward screws or bolts. I guess when it says "fits MOST GPS models" it really means "NOT EVERY GPS MODEL." I liked it well enough to keep it and use it anyway, so I gave it four stars.
