I bought this set for my 3yr old granddaughter, and she loved it! It was easy to assemble is made very well. It has real heads (not paper) and the drums are made of wood not plastic or metal. After some tuning and a little well placed felt (reduces head ringing) they were ready to go! the sound is punchy and loud, but can be played softly too. The cymbal isn't the greatest but it is great with the set. Overall it's great! I highly recommend it.
Adult users, this review is for you

I'm an adult with a small recording studio room in my apartment. I wanted to get a basic, cheap, compact drumkit to practice & record demos with because I was not satisfied with the robotic sound of drum programs like Hydrogen in my music. Even with proper damping this isn't a pro quality kit, but if you are into raw, lo-fi music like I am, that isn't an issue.
This kit has a few kinks that need to be worked out for serious users, but it is a great starter kit for kids as is. I did not have any issues with the hardware like some other reviewers did. It was fairly easy to assemble. The kit fits into a corner of my small studio nicely - it takes up FAR less space than a full size set.
I ordered the green kit and it is a nice, metallic emerald green color with a hint of teal. It looks good. The color in the photos is accurate on both my computer monitor and phone screen.
The smaller drums are naturally quieter than larger ones - a bonus for apartment dewllers. I suggest damping the tom and snare, and stuffing a pillow or two inside the bass drum. Another consequence of their size is higher pitch.
The snare is adjustable not with a side lever, but a dial that you can turn to engage or disengage the snare mechanism. With the snare engaged, it is somewhat sizzly and weak (not very snappy) but sounds decent.
The 10" cymbal sounds a little bit better than using a frying pan or bucket lid, but not much. It is tinny and cheesy sounding, but that's to be expected at this price.
Recommendations for ADULT users; I suggest getting a larger drum throne, or even an adjustable office chair can substitute. The small stool is decent did support my 210 pound weight for a short time but it is very short and I suspect it may break under me since it's made for kids.
Also, the bass drum pedal is a VERY rough and squeaky contraption made of pressed sheet metal, with a nylon strap driving it rather than a chain. I don't mind the strap drive much, but the pedal does not want to sit level and there is too much resistance on the backstroke. The beater is okay. I recommend keeping in mind that you will probably want to replace the bass drum pedal with something affordable but of better quality.
I would also replace the cymbal with a better one, though the one included is not the worst I have heard. Wuhan cymbals are decent and affordable.
Most of the hardware seems solid enough. The only part that concerns me is the tube that connects to the tom. When the tom is rotated, you can feel the set screw scraping the tube and it may strip/wear the spot if rotated often.
I will update my review if I have any issues with this set, but overall, I like it.

... set is built well except the high hat is like a toy high hat

Drum set is built well except the high hat is like a toy high hat. If I had known, I wouldn't have purchased. The High hat sent sounds like my son is hitting a frying pan. No smooth high sound. I'll have to buy a separate high hat and spend more money because he is going to be taking drum lessons. If you are buying a drum set for your kid to really learn drums, you might want to look at another jr set.
Wonderful little drum set for my five year old

Wonderful little drum set for my five year old. He loves it. The only problem is that I bought my five year old a drum set...that makes noise...a lot of noise. A medieval torture device that never should have been invented for children. Oh the noise!!!
He is taking lessons, so I imagine one day, I too will grow to love this set. Until then...he loves it.
I fully recommend this set, I hope you have patience and ear plugs.
Enjoy!!!

the quality for this little starter kit is quite good in my opinion

I got this for my 7yr old daughter (birthday present) and she loves them. The instructions are a little hard to follow (mostly due to being black and white), but the install was not that difficult. the quality for this little starter kit is quite good in my opinion. I looked at a few others that were in this price point, but none included the seat. I think if you are looking for a drum set for your little one, this is probably the best value for a new set you may find.
