I see what they were going for, but the mushroom has a couple of problems. First, it does not roll well and it's bottom heavy. This makes it difficult to topple it over so the treats/food fall out. Second, the neck where the adjustable holes are located is narrow so even if your dog were able to knock it over the chances a morsel falling out is small. Also, it takes at least two topples to knock a piece out. The first to have a treat pass through the hole and a second to tip it back over to empty the mushroom cap. If it were more spherical this may not be so much a hit and miss proposition.

Other info: It is made of a hard plastic. It does seem to be made well. The parts that screw together seem to fit well. I think if it were dropped too many times it would crack though.
Cool and Rewarding Toy

My little 3.5 pound Maltese loves this thing. It's interactive and rewarding. I like that you can change the size of the treat delivery "hole". I just put dog food in it since she eats a tiny bit kibble. She thinks she's getting something special because it's in a toy! You can mix in tiny broken up treats. Pick something that breaks into small pieces or it won't dispense. She got the hang of tipping it right away. It's my second one. After time the top can break off....too much banging around.
Great for dogs with separation anxiety

For a while, my pit bull had pretty bad separation anxiety whenever my husband and I were at work. He chewed through all kinds of stuff (gardening tools, sprinkler lines, hoses etc) in the back yard just about every day.
We went through so many "heavy duty" dog toys, only to find them completely torn to ribbons and scattered all over the lawn and the house, sometimes only a few minutes after giving them to him.
Eventually I got this toy and a couple of KONGs, and used them exclusively to feed him his meals. That way he would have something to do when he was alone during the day.
I am really quite pleased with how it worked out. Surprisingly, he never destroyed it and it helped calm him enough to behave himself. And it held his interest a lot longer than any of the KONG toys.
10/10 definitely recommend!

I also own the KONG wobbler and starmark bob-a-lot so I my review is based on my experiences with the three products. What I really love with the magic mushroom is that it's easy to regulate the flow of the food or treats. The flow control is under the mushroom cap so it's not easy for the dog to hit the flow control and dump all of his food out. It's easy to fill with food and easy to clean. Being made of plastic I was worried about it breaking easily and my beagle puppy hasn't managed to do so yet. My biggest issue with it is the fact that it's so crazy loud when used on a hard floor. I keep my puppy restricted to the kitchen and I've got wood floors. The thing sounds like a wrecking ball when he's playing with it. It's loud enough that you can be outside and hear it crashing against the floor...and my house is brick. On wood floors the kong wobbler is quieter (IMO) than both the magic mushroom and the bob-a-lot, but if you have carpet then this one is great and I'd recommend it over the other two. The flow control for food is better on this one than either of the other two. The KONG wobber doesn't have one and the bob-a-lot can be manipulated by the dog.
My Golden/Terrier mix LOVES this

I saw a review on this toy on a blog called Pitlandia. My dog has been eating so quickly and has been super gassy. I wanted to give him a challenge and a game for when we get ready for work in the morning, so I bought the magic mushroom. At first my dog was a little scared of it, then I started putting the food in the mushroom cap to make him understand it more, now after 4 days he can pick it up and toss it around a lot more easily. My dog looks so happy when he is playing with his magic mushroom! He eats natures recipe dog food, so the pellets are the perfect size for the large mushroom when the holes are completely opened. (He is 58 pounds).

***The first few days I had to watch him - he would get frustrated and try and break it with his teeth, so I rated it a 4 in case there are any chewers.

Looking forward to trying some other food dispensing toys.
