really fun to use and worked great for my project

I was nervous about buying these, based on the mixed reviews. Overall I love these and was happy that I received all the letters and numbers as I noticed some buyers mentioned they were missing letters. A couple of letters didn't make as clean as an impression as the rest, but I didn't mind because I was going for a rustic look. I used them on a farmhouse table my husband and I built, to add a few quotes to our table, some meaningful dates, etc.... When you stain over the impressions made on the wood with these stamps, it creates a very cool effect. On a wood surface, these did a great job. Not sure how durable these would be on metal and used on project after project, as that was not my intended use when I purchased them. Shipping probably took about a week and worth the wait and delay in my instant gratification, in return for the reasonable price.

The price is pretty good but be warned that you get what you pay for. In my case, it's not that big of a deal as I'm not trying to write books with these things. Just want to stamp serial numbers.
Here's what's wrong:
1) the "case" was destroyed during shipping. was not packed thoughtfully at all and the stamps were roaming free in the box when opened.
2) there are 26 letters in the alphabet and 10 digits. the set includes an ampersand. this is a 36 pc set. do the math. it seems from the reviews the stamp you will be missing varied from pack to pack.
3) they are very much covered in machine oil when you get them.
If you need a set and can handle being down a stamp, and don't want to spend much money, maybe you can roll the dice. It's good enough for what I wanted to do that I'm keeping them.

Very nice

I use these for stamping initials and year on wood projects. At first I wasn't sure 1/4" would be large enough, but now that I've stamped the first several pieces (6 characters each), I really like the impression and the clarity. I'm using them on the edge of Baltic birch ply (3/4"), and they do display very nicely. I also will use them on matching joints for assembly. For what the set includes, the price is outstanding. They do come with a protective oil coating, but it rubs off rather easily. I may clean them all off then spray with some WD40 for protection, but we (AZ) don't get much rust here. I'd tried some other methods of scribing (including router and carving), but this is sooo much simpler, quicker, professional looking.
Zero vs. Oh. Works for me.

The set I received has two identical punches for zero and oh. Perhaps this is an error. I suppose I could ask if I can get the other symbol, but it doesn't matter much for me. I'll just file a diagonal notch in one of those punches to denote zero.
I use the punches to generate random bitcoin secret keys. Mix the punches for a minute or two (like a miser sifting through a pile of gold coins), then stamp the 36 character string onto a piece of steel. Voilà, a fireproof record giving me access to my bitcoin. I'm not saying precisely how I compute the actual key from that permutation of 36 symbols.
This also works for generating a master password and any other situation where you need a completely unpredictable key together with a fireproof record of it.

Very useful, a Plant Fanciers Delight

I bought this set specifically for putting plant info on plant tags without worrying about the info disappearing. They work well for this purpose, and I have used them on plastic, copper and zinc labels with good success. One feature would make them much more user friendly, and that would be an indent dot in the side of the punch that would insure you were holding the letter/number in the correct position. When working quickly, I have managed to have sideways and upside down letters because all the sides of the punch are exactly the same. These punch letters are 6mm - approx 1/4 inch in size making them easier to read, but the 3mm - approx 1/8 inch set would allow more information on the tag, so you might want to consider which you prefer. Given the very reasonable purchase price and the heavy duty quality of the punches, this was a very good value.
