It was very difficult to program to my PE650 remote ...
Lisa Anteau•May 27, 2016
It was very difficult to program to my PE650 remote device but it seems to be working after hours of trying to figure out.
it's not reliable

it's not reliable! I've had two replaced first 6 months. one for water leak: this is a "waterproof" device designed to work near water. and the other for unknown... I do like the fact that it's a zwave system that integrates with my home automation.

terrible range doesnt work properly
Backwards compatible with PE650 System
Amazon Customer•November 13, 2012
Although the PE953 came out with the PE653 multiwave controller, it is also backwards compatible with the PE650 (which I have along with 4243 valve control and 1353 timer control units) I decided to upgrade from the PE950 handheld solely because it is not backlit, which is a pain in the winter when you're sitting in the dark in your hot tub and can't see the screen. The PE953 works great and the backlighting is nice and bright. The LCD display still seems a bit dated to me, the letters/numbers are a bit on the skinny side, the same as the PE950, but it's very usable with the backlight. One thing I haven't been able to do is to link the PE950 and PE953 at the same time regardless of which one I try as the primary unit. This would allow me to set a second controller over by my pool. That's not too big a deal but would be nice, I'll keep trying. There are also some extra features that I haven't explored... Scenes. These may not work with my setup if they are a PE653 or zwave feature.
