Excellent generator switch....
D. RichardsonAugust 11, 2017
Overall a very nice transfer switch that works as expected. As others have noted, it seems to be more solidly built than most others and less expensive. Installation is fairly straightforward and not difficult if you have basic wiring understanding or experience. It's a matter of being comfortable getting into your electrical panel or not. If not, this would be very easy for an electrician. The instructions are good and made the electrical. You need to have some basic home maintenance skills to install the box and generator inlet.

Mounting the transfer switch and running the wires into my panel were by far the hardest part of this. My panel is flush mounted in a wall and I had to open up the drywall and hole-saw some studs to run my wiring. Not too difficult, but took some effort and I have some drywall to patch.

Several people have complained about the short generator power inlet leads. These aren't meant to connect to the generator power inlet. The instructions make it clear that they expect you to run those to a junction box and then run that to the inlet. There's no way for the manufacturer to know where this will be relative to the panel "“ they could not possibly include enough hardware to make this work for everybody. One trip to the hardware store does not seem unreasonable to get this thing wired up. Some people will need 20' of 10g Romex. Some will need conduit. I needed neither and was able to mount my inlet right below the switch. Installation conditions will vary widely.

One complaint I have is that the generator inlet box is clearly meant for external use only. The documentation makes it clear that the box is not meant for indoor use. I'm not sure why this would be, or if this means it should not be used in a garage. Given that mine is in the garage I ordered a new inlet. It worked out better because I didn't want to deal with a downward facing connection when the power is out.

One big improvement (for my use) would be an option to move the generator inlet into the box. I installed my switch in the garage near the power panel. It would be nicer looking and more convenient if the inlet could be optionally installed in the front or side of the panel. (For example, look at the Reliance Controls 310 CRK. It has an external inlet box but also has a cutout for the inlet to be mounted in the transfer switch.) This is a minor issue and it cost me $35 to get another inlet and put it in a box next to the transfer switch.

This box connected well and works as expected. It could not be much easier to install and works with my 7500W generator perfectly. I printed out instruction and anybody can reliably and safely get the house on generator power when needed.
Great product, easy to follow instructions

Great product, easy to follow instructions, well made. Perhaps need to have additional instructions when one has their main panel outside where the transfer switch panel will also be mounted. (See attached picture) Over all I am very pleased with my purchase. I would like to suggest that there also be included wire nuts to help with the installation.
Extremely satisfied!

I am extremely satisfied with my Generator Panel. It looks to be a quality product and my installer, who happens to be a Master Electrician, was very impressed with the unit as well. We did have one issue with a mini-switch that failed but a call to the factory resulted in no less than the Director of Operations calling me back to lend his assistance. Long story short, he immediately sent a replacement mini-switch. As I am by no means an electrician he offered to walk me through, on the phone, the install of the replacement part. The panel is so straight forward I replaced it without his assistance. Great product, fantastic customer service!

The EmerGen works exactly as described and when tested, it worked flawlessly.

It comes with complicated installation instructions, at least for me, so for safety and peace of mind, have a licensed electrician install it.
Simple and safe!

The perfect solution to my auxillary power needs! I had a shipping issue but the company was quick and very fair in their remedy of the issue.
The switching of circuits is simple as I did not want to spend $500 on an automatic system but needed to install a safe and practical one.
