Nice switching box.

It is bigger than I thought it would be - but heavy duty enough for what it does. I use it to switch a sub-panel from grid to solar. Its fast and it would be near impossible to make an error and a have both sources 'on' at the same time. One can however, turn both sources 'off' at the same time.
Heavy Duty and Simple

I don't own a Generac generator. Mine is a different brand. Most generator brands also have their own line of transfer switches. I really like that the Generac transfer switch because it is an all in one unit unlike the others that are usually two or three components. Minus one star because Generac does not sale or even recommend the required wire. It's well built and installation is easy if you have a nephew that is an election and owes you a favor.
Nice quality product. Sadly, no front door/cover to protect the exposed breakers.

Nice product with quality breakers. Included both a ground bus and an isolated neutral bus, so I didn't have to buy any accessories. Heavy gauge steel, so it has a solid feel to it. Deducted one star only because I wish it had a front cover (door) for sake of appearance and for protection of the breakers (to keep them from getting bumped or broken) like a normal breaker box has. But functionality-wise, no complaints. For those who are thinking you can add breakers because the front panel has a few knock-outs.... don't. This is a transfer switch ONLY, not a breaker panel.
Good but not perfect outdoor transfer switch

This is a very handy and convenient manual transfer switch. The unit comes with a 30 amp generator breaker and a 200 amp main service breaker with a sliding safety switch which prevents feeding generator power back into the utility. Power from the lower lugs inside the meter pan feeds into the right side of the breaker; then the power returns from the lower lugs inside the transfer switch back into your circuit breaker panel. There was enough room inside the box to maneuver 3/0 copper fairly easily, and all four wires with ground fit inside standard 2" PVC conduit. It was tight but it worked! The unit is well-made and seems adequately weatherproofed. One nice feature is the included 14/30R NEMA receptacle which is located on the bottom left of the transfer switch box. This location can be a problem, however. Generac recommends mounting the box to the right of the meter (if possible) as the load lugs are toward the left side of the of the box. There are no side knockouts on the transfer switch, but there are two additional ones on the bottom. If you leave the NEMA receptacle in its factory location, any conduit leaving the bottom of the transfer box will travel directly under the inlet receptacle as it travels left toward the meter base. This would block the receptacle and make it difficult to insert the generator power cord. My solution was to remove the receptacle and move it one knockout to the right. Only problem with this is that there are NO pre-drilled holes to secure the receptacle, and it takes a steady hand to drill them manually. Generac should pre-drill around at least one of the other knockouts which would make this operation much easier. Viewing the attached photo will make this issue a bit more clear! Overall these are minor problems and this is probably the best weatherproof outdoor manual transfer switch I have seen to date.
Does exactly what it's supposed to..

I needed a 100 amp transfer switch for my workshop so I could switch between the Utility Company & my off-grid solar setup whenever I need to. This works just as expected, it's a manually operated switch and I am very satisfied with it.
