Defective or does not work.

I used this for the first time today. I followed the instructions but for some reason the siphon would not start. I placed the pot I was siphoning from on the counter and the pot I was siphoning to on a chair well below the liquid level. Some reviewers state that one push started the siphon but when I pumped on the siphon, it just pushed the liquid back out of the main tube and sirred the fermented beer. I even tried to pump vigorously, but nothing.

This thing works great. If your doing small batch (1 gal) this is the best item. I bought the larger siphon at first and it was a pain, but this thing is great for my small batches. No Complaints at all. Very durable as well dropped it a few times on tile and concrete and nary a crack
I suck on the valve to begin the draw

The middle part is too loose and has little suction. So, I've purchased a pvc ball valve and 3/8" tubing. I suck on the valve to begin the draw, and then can start/stop anytime I want, and makes filling bottles easy.

This Siphon is perfect for my 1 gallon batches of homemade wine. I have never once had a problem with it. Great suction and no repeated pumping. I have never had to pump this thing more than twice. It delivers time and time again. It is very easy to clean and siphons at a perfect level so I don't get the nasty dead yeast when I rack my wine.
I am sure the regular size would not have worked and so happy to have found the mini size

Got this to pump our first time home made wine from a 1.5 gal jar to another. I am sure the regular size would not have worked and so happy to have found the mini size. Tubing is made of glass. Need other tubing to get the required length. Had to boil the end of the extra tube in water so it will fit over this glass tube without breaking. Thanks to this tip in the reviews.
