fantastic DAC

Great DAC at a great price. the build quality is supreme and the audio is even better.
My only complaint is that the USB cable on the back comes out easily. Otherwise its a fantastic device.
Would recommend to anyone looking to get into Hi-Fi and upgrade their setup.
First step is to get a quality dac and some good IEMs or over-ear's. This is definitely a great candidate for a first time DAC

Solid DAC - night and day difference.
Bought this in 2013. It started making very distorted noises about 1 years in. Audioengine's service was wonderful - they sent out a new one immediately. The new one has been solid for the last 3 years. I've used it both with an iMac and now for the last year with the fiber optic out on a Samsung 9000 series TV. Mind-blowing sound. Paired with A5+s and an S8.

So I am at home for summer break and am currently using bose computer speakers but at my apartment i have some audio engine a5+s. Anyways, I bought this DAC for the audio engine speakers along with the speaker stands but for now I am using the DAC with my MacBook air and bose speakers and I am blown away by the improvement in sound quality. I can't wait to try them on my better speakers! I highly recommend this DAC!

I did buy a new usb 2.0 to 3.0 10+ foot cable from amazon basics since the included one was a bit short ($10 bucks or so). I also run it to my tv with an optical cable and this lets cable and PS4 run audio and that sounds awesome.
One thing I do notice is that it will occasionally shut-off although that could be my usb hub (amazon 10 port).. other than that it's been a great DAC although my friend just bought it from me so I will update when I have another to compare it to.
For under $200 this is a great buy and you won't be disappointed!

I upgrade from Laptop integrated sound card to this small DAC. The improvement is obvious. Sound of each instruments in music is more separated and clear, which showed what does "High Definition" means. I use this DAC with Sennheiser HD598, which give me great sound comparing to my integrated sound card. Another pair of my headphone AKG K701 doesn't work well with this DAC, of which the sound is very thin.
One suggestion is that to tell the difference of a DAC, you'd better to have a headphone at lest as expensive as this DAC first. otherwise invest on headphone first, which will give you a more obvious difference.
Overall I recommend this DAC to Laptop users who care about sound quality and want to upgrade from integrated sound card.
