I used this automatic switch for outdoor holiday lights. It has a day/night sensor and can be programmed to come on at dusk and turn off at any number of hours later - or stay on all night - or stay on all of the time.
A tip: Make sure the sensor is pointed so that headlights and other lights don't shine on it. It will mess up the timer function if lights shine on it while it's on. I don't mean christmas lights - just bright lights like car headlights and flash lights.
It worked all season without any issues controlling 200 LED christmas lights. I used it outdoor on my outdoor roofed front porch.

I thought this would be a great timer to use outdoors with my Christmas lights. It did NOT work. No power came out of it. I plugged it in and set it for 9 hours. I then plugged in my Christmas lights drop cord. There were only 3 - 100 light strands that I wanted to light on a shrub outside my front door. When the lights did not come on at dusk, I checked the timer and my drop cord; I found that no power was coming OUT of the timer. Trying to return it would be time consuming and a hassle so I tossed it and found another at Lowe's. Won't buy this brand again.

After having this for a while, I have to come back and say that the light sensor must be way to sensitive. In the evening the Christmas lights will come on for 30 seconds then off for 30 seconds or so then back on. Whenever a car drives by the lights reset and come back on for the timer time. In the morning as dawn is coming the lights will come off then on then off. I must replace this before it ruins my expensive LED lights! I think I may have to go back to a manual timer? Very disappointed in the photoelectric light sensor and switch in this timer.

This 24-hour digital outlet timer was a life saver for me this holiday season. I put timers on all my outside lights, setting them to come on at dusk and off 6 hours later (other time duration options available on this as well). In previous years I always had to go outside in the dark, rain, snow and the cold, in my pajamas to unplug my lights before I went to bed. With these timers, I never had to worry about doing that. I just stayed warm inside my house knowing that all the lights would turn off automatically before I woke up in the morning. Another great benefit is that they turn on and off whether you are home or not, giving the idea that someone is home, which is a great for security reasons. Highly recommend this product, and I will never go back to manually unplugging Christmas lights again! Thank you!
