A must for Elizabeth Rohm fans!

I think this might be Rose's best film. Directors and artists in general probably understand the mechanics and emotion of obsession better than most because they generally seek an unattainable perfection. Strangely, it's only after Edgar sees the bloody body of his wife that he sees her as a separate human being and not just the object of his lust Given his description of himself as a child catching his mother having sex with another man, Freud might say that Edgar never grew out of his his Oedipal phase. Just one more trivial observation, I wish they'd cast the brilliant violinist as a less fragile, almost child-like character. But it's really the emotion in the music and the deep musical engagement between his wife , the pianist and the violinist that the husband can never attain.

better than I thought it would be!

Definitely not for everyone, but if you've liked any other other Rose/Huston/Tolstoy pieces, you'll want to see this one. Quality performances and film making all around.
