Purchased from Amazon Warehouse and it clearly had been installed before and returned to Amazon. The packaging had been ripped apart, parts were missing, and instruction booklet marked up. I have experience installing these units but found the instruction booklet to be unclear and lacking. Because it is 'Universal" it supposedly is capable to work on any AC unit which is a warning sign in it self. After installation and power was turned back on the thermostat shorted out the AC transformer resulting in a costly repair. The Service Tech stated the thermostat's "mother board" had previously been damage causing it to "short out" my AC unit. I have purchased through Amazon Warehouse before with great success but they let this one slip by. As for the thermostat itself do not purchase one that is "Universal" but one that is designed for your specific use. Although White-Rogers has a good reputation this model is expensive junk and I question if I'll ever purchase their brand again.

Easy to install, easy to set up and use. It looks good, and the display temperature matches my hand-held meter. Very nice, overall. The 'Away' button comes at a premium though, and has limited functionality.

The 'Away' button is a simple preset and could be used for anything, such as a favorite temperature. If this would toggle back to whatever temperature was previously set, it would be more useful -- like having two presets on one button. Instead, one must set the desired temperature again manually after using the 'Away' button. In contrast, the less expensive UP310 Emerson UP310 Premium 7 Day Programmable Universal Thermostat trades the 'Away' button for 7-day or 5-1-1 programmability.

Note: Amazon says that this is a newer model of the White-Rodgers UNP300 White-Rodgers UNP300 Universal Non-Programmable Thermostat with Home/Sleep/Away Presets. The UNP300 appears to be an older style, but still is available and has three presets.

New condo came with the thermostat from hell by Trane - you will thank your lucky stars if you never have to deal with the Trane thermostat that must have been designed by engineers that did not like people - it is the worst piece of technology I have ever encountered (and you won't find it - hopefully ever- on Amazon - technically it's a commercial product, programmable with just 5 buttons and the most un-intuitive piece of crap ever designed)

The strong points of this thermostat include:
BIG display - really easy to see the temperature and the set temperature
SIMPLE to operate: want to change the set temperature? There's UP and DOWN arrow buttons: makes sense.
VERSATILE: with the Home, Away and Sleep buttons you can have pre-programmed one-push temperature settings! Easy!!
LOGICAL: There are old-fashioned switches under the hinge panel that don't require any electronic savvy to: switch off, or to A/C or to Heat; and, to have the Fan on Auto or ON. Real switches No menus no pushing the right buttons - just operate the dedicated switch.

Programming the preset temps is straight-forward.
This thermostat does not know what time it is, does not care, and does not have any ability to program in different settings for different times of day or different days. The temperature set will not change unless a human being presses a button. Which is exactly what I want. I don't have a life that's the same every day or specific days of the week, or even if it was, I don't live in a climate that is conducive to these fancy programmable thermostats that let you set different temps for specific times and days. Most of the time, I'm able to have the system OFF. (lucky to live Hawaii!) But, when I need a/c, or if I want to change the temp once I have it on, there's no rocket science involved. I'm very content with this thermostat - which was priced very nicely when I ordered it.

I love this thermostat! I specifically wanted one that was NOT programmable, because our previous one was way too complicated and had too many buttons; whose schedule is so predictable and/or micromanaged that they need to pre-program thermostat settings for each day of the week? I love the simplicity of this one: three buttons that can be pre-set to a preferred temperature for being home, away, or sleeping. Up-down arrows are no-brainers for additional adjustment. When you adjust, the temperature stays that way until you tell it otherwise; our previous thermostat seemed to have a mind of its own and would revert to its program no matter how often you overrode it. I also love that the screen is big, back-lit, and uncluttered -- easy to read from a distance, can be read in the dark at night, and only the necessary information is displayed; I don't need my thermostat to tell me the time or the weather or anything else. I have also found that this thermostat takes a more accurate read than our previous one, which keeps our house at a consistent temperature, as opposed to cycling on and off at its leisure while we alternate between boiling and freezing. A worthwhile purchase!

Easy to install. I am a never ever and have little experience or training. Did take longer than 15 min since reviewed instructions etc. So far works great
