Budget locker bang for your buck
Casey Espeseth✓ Verified Purchase•January 26, 2018
If you decide to go this route it's a budget locker it works well install is about 3-4 hrs taking your time .
Driving with it takes some getting use to but others may have different affects
It will magnify any loose steering you have also check all ujoints on axle shafts
And make sure to take up to freeway speeds drive to insure you did correctly
Also make sure to change your diff fluid after couple hundred miles you'll see so brass shaving in oil so don't freak out
Take corners easy don't go full lock steer other than that it is pretty dang good
First week was very nosiy after that the locker quited down and I barley here it ratcheting

I installed a Spartan Locker in the front of my mallcrawler last week. I've been driving around town and I had the opportunity to test it out over the long Thanksgiving weekend and I'm pretty impressed.
On road in 2wd there is a slight ratcheting noise around tight turns but drivability doesnt suffer at all. Offroad I've noticed a night and day difference.
Instead of grimacing through deep, loose, sandy washes and hoping I don't have to stop, I'm eating them up like a lightweight side by side. If I start "plowing" through a turn I can modulate the skinny pedal until I'm pointing the right way and then hammer down again. On ugly rutted hill climbs I'm able to crawl straight up instead of building up speed and hammering the bejesus out of my axles in the name of momentum. I found a field of pumpkin sized boulders and played a little and my only limitation was my poorly protected undercarriage; I had all the traction I needed but I still need to drive myself home.
I'm completely satisfied with the locker so far. I definitely don't wheel as hard as a lot of people but I probably get out more than average. The install was simple even with basic hand tools and I'm considering getting another Spartan for the rear.

I like it better than Aussie locker!

I Had a aussie locker that wore out after almost 3 years of abuse. Installed the Spartan locker as a replacement. I can say this is light years ahead! Easier install. More surface area for the gears that lock. Plus it's very quite compared to the aussie locker it replaced.
I've submitted a comparison picture. The one Spartan gear on the left vs my old aussie lockers on the right. And a completed install photo.
All this in a 1993 Grand Cherokee with Dana 35.

USA standard gear's Spartan locker is the first locker I've ever driven and this was the first time I ever took an axle apart. Took me a couple hours to get everything disassembled but what a simple install. No more spider gears crawling through my diff, now I can show off on the trail and stall more, lockers take some getting used to but they're an incredible off-road upgrade especially for the price. I'm driving a 95 Jeep Wrangler lifted 4" with 33s converted to a tj style front axle shaft and I don't notice my spartan locker at all while driving in 2wd unless I move the wheel left to right while stationary. It's a locker, and so far it works great.
Lock up your Ford 8.8 axle!

Excellent. I have this on a daily driver rear wheel drive 2001 Ford Sport Trac. Makes going up snowy hills and pulling the boat out of the water at the ramp much better.
Easy to install, just be sure you try to put the second "C" clip in the slotted area on one of the center drivers, it won't install otherwise.
There is some ratcheting when going around a tight corner, not an issue for me.
