Great misting fan
Alejandro•September 9, 2017
It really lowered the temperature by several degrees.
A nice fan in need of better packing materials.

I very much like this fan, and it does a good job moving the air and cooling things down. However, I had a problem with it after the first couple days of operation when I noticed that the mister unit was no longer spraying mist. The pump was working fine, and by disconnecting hoses I could tell that water was moving up the stand column. I felt something was obstructing the water flow into the mister assembly. I contacted the company and they assured me I would not void my warranty if I took the unit apart to check it. I did, and found a small bead of Styrofoam from the fan's packing material (see photo) had become lodged in the orifice where water sprays into the mister unit. I cleared it out, and all worked well again. I suggested to the company that they explore alternate packing materials, as the molded Styrofoam they currently use is highly frangible, and the small bits that break off during shipping and unpacking are very electrostatic, which causes them to adhere to plastic surfaces like the tank and pump. I apparently missed a very small fragment as I cleaned the unit and added water, but that fragment was enough to cause the unit to fail. Styrofoam is also not biodegradable, so I had to pay a premium when I took the huge, molded blocks of foam to the landfill.
Worth the money

Great fan. Easy to assemble with limited directions. Could use better assembly directions and a parts list. Noisier than I expected, but it is a large fan so no complaint in that area. Found a 1/2" by 1/2" stainless collar that I had nowhere to put and nothing in the directions to identify it. Tried calling service but closed on weekends so hopefully will find out where it goes on Monday. All said, we still like the fan and it does what we wanted as we spend a lot of time on our patio in the Florida hot summer.
Great support!

After much investigation, I decided to purchase this fan because 1.) it used a spinning tray to propel the mist into the air stream (rather than injection nozzles which generate too much water spray, wetting everything in front of it and also seriously wetting the floor around the fan), and 2) most reviews indicated that the commercial rating was accurate and that the fan was well constructed. This fan was everything we wanted, and more. We've had parties with 20+ people in the hot, muggy Florida summer and, lo and behold, everyone stayed out on the patio rather than seek relief indoors.! Standing directly in front of the fan does NOT coat you with water and there is NO puddle on the floor. The fan motor is powerful enough to cover our 20 x 15 living area at a lower speed than max. Over 2 days, 8 hours, we never had to refill the tank and there is still some reserve water in the tank. Down-side? 1.) I purchased a refurbished model (after all it IS more expensive than the injection-type fans) and found that, although the hoses had been replaced, the original hose pieces were still stuck in the host inlets. A message to Luma support was answered immediately letting me know that they were contacting the manufacturer to get instructions on how to remedy the problem and was followed up by the explicit directions that allowed me finish the setup. Great support!! 2) the fan is kinda noisy but I didn't have problems hearing others while sitting within 6 feet of it. (My wife says it's because everyone was talking louder - heh) 3) As usual, the instructions don't seem to provide identification of all the features, screws, knobs, etc. I can't figure out why the least expensive part of any manufacture ( the user documentation) is always given short-shrift. Anyway, the documentation is sufficient to allow relatively straight-forward assembly, and the hoses and inlets they go into are marked with matching numbers to make the install pretty foolproof. I had no problems getting the hoses to fit into their inlets (once I cleaned out the old hose pieces) as has been reported by other reviewers, perhaps because I pulled the hoses out of their "conduit" cover and made sure they didn't cross over each other which would shorten them enough to cause problems reaching the inlets. As you can tell I am very pleased with this purchase!
Update: I don't understand some of the other negative reviews about the misting "nozzles" and "hose connections". This fan has neither. it has a centrifugal spinning tray that throws a fine mist while most water returns to the tank for reuse -- no wet furniture, people, or floors like some report with nozzles. It sounds like they are reviewing a different product.
