Sharp rivet ends inside trunk
Mom of 2 in Ashburn, VA✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 24, 2017
When I opened the trunk, there were rivet ends poking through the liner. I'm afraid anything I would put into the trunk would get ruined. I thought about trying to cover the rivet ends, but they stick out so much, I'm afraid they would poke through any covering. Unusable. I returned.
good box weak hinges
Tim✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 24, 2017
The box came as it was promised and in good condition. The only problem I find with this trunk is the weak hinge system. I use it for photo booth props and the hinges are already bending backwards creating a poor situation for keeping the lid open. I have to install small chains at either side to prevent this from happening and from keeping the lid from flopping all the way back onto the floor.
Not just for college students!

I love this trunk! I purchased it after recently downsizing and realized it needed just a little more storage space for things that I wanted to remain easily accessible. Although I expected it to be just a tad bigger it is deep and has lots of space. It is durable, stylish, and constructed very well. A few cedar chips make it the perfect sweater storage trunk. I plan on buying another for myself and even a for a few college trunk parties. It is a great simple trunk for all your storage needs.
A home for magical adventures

I considered the comments about it being unsturdy and lacking enough useful handles carefully, and decided that I didn't need it to do much more than function like a cardboard box so it should be fine. It has been just the right tool for the job. Our daughter loves dressing up in costumes, but they are always buried in her closet and mixed up with everything else that gets stuffed in there, no many how often I organize things. I bought this so I could set them out in her room. She gets to them easily now. I leave it flipped open so the costumes can spill over into the lid. This lets her see more and lets it holds more. They don't get mixed up with other closet stuff, other than the occasional stuffed animal, and she and her friends are playing with the costumes much more. For us it was the perfect tool for the job, and because it's a trunk, a staple of fiction, you kind of have the feeling that a magical adventure must be in store.
Another problem is that the trim comes off easily if it catches on something
Dr. Thomas Kaeding✓ Verified PurchaseApril 9, 2016
I used to buy these from Kmart for $25. Now they are $65 and up. Crazy.

Anyway, they are not really hardwood. They used to be particle board, but now they are plywood. Another problem is that the trim comes off easily if it catches on something. Delta Airlines was kind enough to tear all the trim off of one for me. So DO NOT use this as luggage. Be careful if you drag it along the floor, too.

On the positive side, It will hold 70 pounds of books without collapsing, and it looks nice in the living room.

As for the lock, it is better to add a padlock. There is a place for one in front.
